****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Just clicked on "check updates" in settings on my stock sgs2 and it's just downloaded and installed 2.3.5 :)

Got that glow thing instead of bounce now

Which Build Number do you have now?

There seem to be several available at the moment, of which some are better (or later) than others.

Thanks! :)

Im not saying its a bad phone, the hardware is very good. But if Samsung had used their own OS or used winmo like before, this phone would be useless.

What Im saying is that Samsung's software is crap and anyone who wants to defend their software is clueless.

How is that any different to any phone on the market? The iPhone is exactly the same, without iOS it would be no where near as good seeing as hardware wise, the iPhone isn't best in class.

If you're on about Kies, then yes it's awful, then again so is every PC connectivity software apart from iTunes. HTC Sync was just as bad when I had a Desire, but that's the beauty of these phones. There's a handful of applications that can sync via MTP and if that's not a valid solution, you still have the ability to mount the Sdcard and copy and paste or xcopy.

I've only installed Kies to get the drivers, since then I've not had to use it because Odin and Hiemdall work to flash updates, even without root and contact/media syncing is managed by the cloud.

Does this have over scroll glow, or over scroll bounce? I.e. if you navigate to ether the bottom or the top of a menu, does the list bounce back into focus or does a blue overlay appear?

Yup :) Felt really weird at first but it is pretty neat! Continuous scroll through the homescreen menu too is awesome

Has anyone on orange tried UMA on this phone yet? I understand how it works, but I'm not too sure if you would get charged for any data usage. Ie if you had UMA switched on for making calls but then went and started surfing the internet, would you get charged for the internet usage, even though your connected to your own wifi?
It doesn't seem to clear in Orange's FAQ section.

:(

I have 4 months left on my N900 contract and was looking for an upgrade. I saw this thread and with the hundreds of pages and good reviews of this phone I so want one now. Im hoping to buy out the last few months of my contract and get one of these babies in the next few weeks.

Am I right in saying that this phone will play most/all things film wise?

Yes, Samsung have good codec support. You sure you don't want to even wait to see what the Prime has to offer?

On ROM news, I've just seen on Google+ that CM7 should now support Bluetooth A2DP :) (If video is working, I'm on that sucka!)

doesn't that "silent icon" annoy you when you've got it set to vibrate? it's totally unnecessary.

i'm sure it's only certain builds too, don't have it on 2.3.7

It's a Samsung feature, not Android, so CM7 won't have it.

I just disabled the vibrate icon so I just have the silent one there :).

Ive flicked through and seen comments about a '720p phone', thought you was referring to that - unless I read it wrong (it was late). But yes the Prime does look good and Ill wait for the final specs.
