Battlefield 3 RETAIL Performance Thread

True it is but the way I look at it is the 4 core will fix you for now but what about the long term?

True enough but stuff like this worries me... For gaming at least, be a looong while before games are using 6 cores?

Seems the 975 would be a better buy?

EDIT: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/phenom-ii-x6-1100t-thuban-amd,2810-6.html

Just confusing myself now... no real diff in gaming between the 970 and 1100T, apart from 50 quid... I really dont know - someone tell me what to do! lol

Tried to find it in this thread but can't.

Any idea if my lappy will play this, specs in sig or for those that can't be bothered:

Core i5 450m and mobile 5650.

I'm thinking it will play on all low?

My laptop is a i5 540m with 5650 mobile GPU and using AMD Overclock tool setting my ATI GPU to 650 core and 850 memory (max I'd get away with without cooking my laptop lol) and BF3 is running just fine at -

1600 x 900 using

High settings for textures and effects, meduim for everything else, no MSAA and 2 x AA HBAO (i think I'll check later) and motion blur turned on. Can sometimes dip below 30fps - rarely but averages 35fps using v sync and triple buffer via D3D overrider.

Can't tell any difference betwen high and ultra other then fps drop to un-playable on my laptop using 1600 x 900, game isn't playable using 1920 x 1080even using medium and can't bring myself to use low to gain the higher res.

MSAA was the killer for my ATI 5650, even my 5870 on my desktop rig struggles with it... Seems overheads on ATI cards for this is high, to be fair on a 5650 even 1280 x 720 is fairly good looking.. Game scales very well, impressed with it.

Wow, thank you so much for posting this - exactly the information I was after. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at how well it seems to play, which is lucky as the postman just turned up with my LE copy ;)

Hopefully the install goes well.

I am going to leave it with you :p all I will say is that my 1090T works wonders and I have no problem at all whilst running BF3. At the end of the day pal its what you feel and what you can afford and what is practical.

Good luck :)

Currently have a single 5770 and looking to get BF3, will it cope?

Have twin Benq 2420's also been offered a second 5770 ~£45 or is it just going to be fighting a losing battle when running the game - if so what is the sweet spot hardware v BF3?

Matt

I had a 5770 before upgrading to a 6970 and it ran BF3 on Medium>Low settings... Didn't look bad at all, in fact, it ran a lot better than I expected!

:( Thanks! lol

Tbh, after much deliberation and skiving in work i can see a 975 or 980 on the horizon.

Little to no differance in gaming but slightly cheaper so money to put to watercooling or another 4gb of ram or something...

A friend has my old 5770, he plays single play in high and says it works fine

Sweet spot is probably a 570 i would say

not got the game yet, what can i expect with spec in sig (2560x1440 res). i would hasten a guess i can "ultra-it-out" but not on every setting. 50 FPS AVG is what i'm looking for on my pair of GTX 480's

No problem. I would go with an extra 4GB RAM :).

Yeah you're not going to be competing with the bigger boys and their higher end GPU, but skip any MSAA settings (this is a right killer), keep the res below 1600 x 900 in fact 1366 x 768 is a nice res to play BF3 and keep everything mostly at medium settings and high textures you'll get a nice decent ish game out of it..

I was quite surprised, granted many will scoff at 30fps dipping into 25fps but average 35fps but its every bit up there with consoles and you get to play with slightly better textures, kb + mouse if you want and to me its worth it..

Those playing at 1920 x 1200 + upwards at 70fps using ultra with MSAA cranked up have some hardcore kit to pump that type of display out, but you'll have a nice time with what I've recommended as I'm enjoying it every bit as much I'm sure as console owners stuck at just below 1280 x 720..

Enjoy your game...

Im getting around 75FPS all on Ultra apart from shadows, SBAO and no MSAA - HD6970

Never dips below 60ish, but for some reason still doesn't feel smooth, it feels laggy :(

I swapped out 2x6870s thinking it'd be a crossfire issue, and it appears it's something else :(

Still playable, just irritating.
