How to make friends at uni, if you don't like clubs?

The amount of girls into beer and gaming pcs with a spot of badminton, I'm guessing is pretty small...

Just realise that sometimes you can have other things to do than what you find interesting, if I only ever did what I wanted, I doubt I would ever have a girlfriend!

I know one and oddly enough she joined the army to shoot real people. she was ace to go out drinking with too

Just make friends with other geeks?

Im at uni, and I dont like clubs at all. Does that make me a geek?

My course mates joke about my 'old man ish ways' but they respect the fact that I don't pretend to like 'going out', unlike many of the other kids at uni.

Why is it fun going somewhere, when the only way you can have fun is to get sloshed and shuffle about a grotty dancefloor with a load of other drunks?

Just thought of something. We could have an OCUK Edinburgh pub crawl or something, if there are enough people up for it?

lol after posting that you don't like clubs and the whole drinking culture you insta reply suggesting a meet to get wasted.

Lets be honest, does any other pub crawl not end with people drunk.

On topic though, and as many have said; have you not heard of societies?

Is their such a thing as a society that doesn't primarily go out drinking?

I'll list a few at my uni

Rugby - drinkers
football - drinkers
Motocycle - drinkers
Swimming - drinkers
Cricket - drinkers
Climbing - drinkers
Racquet club - drinkers

I don't mean pub social drinks. Im talking passed out vomit inducing touch cup playing drinking socials

I don't know, I go to clubs in London & Essex, have you seen the girls there? Just that should be enough to make you go out.

+1

This made me lol. Depends on the club you go to and the people you are with. Not all clubs are full of chavs. You clearly have only been to the big ones like Oceana ect that are generally full of chavs.

Alos op, run through uni naked your get some notice then!

After stripping on the stage in my union, I got multiple drinks bought for me. Wasodude gives great advice.

Sadly true, but it just means you socialise while doing the activity the society is for, and just ignore the drinking socials or whatever.

Try stop being such a grumpy old git and actually havin a few drinks and getting to know people instead of being so judgemental, you don't have to get wasted to fit in, just try having a good time.

Oh and get some fun hobbies outside of uni that you can meet other people in too, walking, camping, fishing, climbing, mountain biking, surfing, dogging...?

Talk to people on your courses, have lunch with them, hang out at the student union during the day, join any daytime activity club that you enjoy.

I play American football - we have socials, where we go out and usually get fairly drunk/do pub golf at the start of each year/etc... but we have people who don't drink (they still come out, etc)/only drink a bit. It's not an issue. We don't primarily exist to drink... I think the sporting side is equally as important as the social side.

Wish my uni rugby team had the same attitude. I really miss playing but I cant commit to weekend games of local clubs :(

Know the feeling, in my 3rd year in a house with some people who whilst they do drink, don't drink too often , and when they go out I just stay at home.

My problem is that their are no societys that interest me. I'm not geeky enough for the traditional 'geeky' clubs (video games society, D+D etc), don't like sport and have no active interest in politics or student societies.

The majority of the people in my course are the type that go out clubbing with 'themes', can't think of anything worse myself. So life at times can be quite lonely (forever alone etc), but I get over it. I'd ignore all the people who always say 'uni is the best time of your life' etc.

I like to go to Banshee Labyrinth or Opium if I'm drunk in Edinburgh.

Or you could take an AK-47 to the hive. That'll make you friends.

Go out, Have a few drinks loosen up get on the dance floor. You will soon find some bird to pass your night away with. Rinse and repeat until you get a proper job and start paying taxes and money gives you a real head ache!
