im thinking of upgrading to a 24inch screen, but ive oly got a single 5850.
whats the verdict on if itll be enough to play BF3 at high settings? its currently playing at 1680x1050 on all high very well. would the increase in res be a huge performance hit?

anyone using a single 5850 with a 24" screen?

I'm sure there are some benchies out there :)

With a single 5850 I can play bf3 at 1080p on my 24" asus monitor on high settimgs, no ambient occulsion, deffered thing off and aa at 16x. It runs at 35fps average, but really struggles on 64 player maps. Youl have to drop settings to medium to make it playable.

When I switch crossfire on Im playing everything ultra but shadow and textures, ambieant off and deffered off. Runs average 70fps even on 64 player maps :) you should get another 5850, whats the rest of your spec like?

My i5 is running at 3.7ghz and I have 8gb of ram, thats probably why I can run it those settings with good fps.

Should be perfectly fine at a mixture of medium and high settings. 1920x1080 isn't *that* much higher than 1680x1050 to hit performance massively.

You should find clocking the HD5850 will help noticeably.

Just installed my 560Ti and I'm getting between 50-60fps consistently at 1080p with everything on ultra, but with FXAA instead of MSAA. That's on a pretty old rig as well: Q6600 at stock, 4Gb ram, 780i mobo.

I'm quite surprised at how well it's running, actually, all things considered. I'm going to OC my Q6600 to 3.6Ghz also, so hopefully I might be able to stay above 60 all the time if that goes well.

One question though, I can't seem to open console in campaign. The tilda key isn't doing anything. Am I missing something? I've been getting FPS readings with ctrl+alt+s but that's not ideal.

Is that in single player or multiplayer? I've yet to see a single 560Ti be able to handle EVERYTHING on Ultra at 1080P and stay around the 50 - 60 fps mark in multiplayer

Not tried the multiplayer yet but the campain is running on the ultra preset really nice and smoothly on my rig (see my signature). The lighting and smoke effects in the engine are probably the biggest difference for me between the BC2 frostbite engine and this new one.

One thing that really does annoy me though is the constant vignette effect. Is there anyway to disable it?

Constant? I'm not sure what you mean. Mine goes all vignette on me when i get shot the hell out of, but not constant. If that's what you mean then no, i haven't found a way to stop it, quite like it in fact.

Try it on Multiplayer, that's a better test to stress your rig out. Especially the larger maps like Caspian Border and Operation Firestorm. You'll find you'll have to lower your graphics settings a lot to get 50 - 60 fps on a single 5850.

Consistently benchmarking with FRAPS on 64 player servers on any map at

MaX: 130fps +
AVerage: 85fps
Min: 50fps

Spends most its time at 70-90FPS, runs it very well indeed, sometimes you will get a small lag when you enable the guns scope in a new area, or if things really get hectic it will suffer for a moment, but im sure if the cards had 2Gb of VRAM it would much the game to pieces. I'll await 7XXX series for a 2Gb car in crossfire i think :)

Single player, first mission. I'm sure it will drop off on a big multiplayer map. Also, probably worth me noting it's an overclocked 560Ti. It's the Asus TOP edition at 900MHz.

Constant as in theres always a vignette present. Its a very cheap way of trying to make you focus on the centre of the screen.

Due, you realise it came out 3 weeks ago, right? :) ;)

Yeah, but I bought the game last night :P

they are great. just started to get the hang of overclocking the 2700k :D

Cool, good to hear, not really had the chance/time to get into serious oc'ing my 2500K, more or less put it straight to 4.5GHz, hopefully there's more but I'm sure I'll know who to ask when I do look for more!;)

Never see less then 70fps on multiplayer or single player and reugularly see 2.5GB to 2.6GB vram usage on single player and multiplayer which is surprising especially as I've never used MSAA. I think BF3 loves to use vram but does not actually need to use 2.5GB to eat the game as the 560ti SLI users would tell you.

Lowest FPS I've seen was 37 on a 64 player map during a load of smoke/gun fire but on 32 player maps I think it very rarely drop below 50fps.

VRAM is near on maxed out with these settings on some of the bigger maps, I found out playing with some settings much higher caused my game to freeze due to lack of VRAM. Overall though it looks nice, and very playable. :)

I used to get the green flashes, mainly on Tehran Highway when moving the mouse left or right quickly but I haven't had it for a few weeks now. Not sure if it was due to drivers or what exactly seems to have fixed it though. Spec in Sig.
