Skyrim ...Is it any good ?

It's fantastic. It's brilliant. It's a masterpiece.

It's got a few flaws, but minor things in the grand scheme of things.

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, was good, fantastic in fact but this feels like it's evolved from that, in to something magnificent.

Im really torn

No im torn.

j/ks aside, ive never liked the whole rpg stuff in the past, did enjoy wow tho (mainly because it was MMO). Anyway thats different, I bought skyrim too see what all the fuss was about and I was suprised.

its enjoyable, alittle rough but very fun, some of the fights are really great and afew times ive decided to run out of caves like a little girl because i get all scared!

It's a game which in my eyes won't receive much criticism as it's really enjoyable. Even if people say graphics are top notch, they are still really really good and once more mods come out it will be even better. Long live Skyrim

i'd say graphically it looks allot sharper the character faces are far better, its got a more of a open wilderness feel to it.

the main difference is the dragon shout system its like a way of useing magic but it comes from within you as apposed to spells cast.

the caves are more like dungeons with walls and lights and nice features oblivion was more like a natural cave with no features in.

i've had it a week and its too addictive i even get up an hour early before work to play it.

I'm no RPG fan and only picked it up on a whim (because the press was so positive).

This is definitely GOTY material, the attention to detail and just sheer amount of things to do puts other develops to shame. It defines the term RPG.

As an example I have yet to touch the main quest and I've clocked up 30 hours just exploring and doing side quests... for me that's incredible as my attention span for games is usually a few hours and that includes other 'blockbuster' titles.

Even if RPG isn't your favourite genre I would suggest you'd be missing a gem by passing this by.

I think it speaks more of my change in gaming preference over the years, however I was not able to get into Oblivion. I tried hard to like it, but could never actually get more than 2 hours in without just wanting to give up... so I did.
Since that time I've grown sick of online shooters and have completed a few RPGs (Mass effect/Fallout etc) and picked this up on the release date.

I've never really been one for too much wandering about - like in Fallout, I pretty much stuck to the main quests and didn't find exploring all that rewarding (mostly because you just rnu out of ammo or get killed too often).
Skyrim however, like a lot of people here, I have spent 25 hours on so far and I've done one of the story quest objectives. I've done and found some really entertaining side quests, none of which have felt laborious thus far. The game does a fantastic job of making you feel like you can go anywhere and do anything... and BE any type of character.
I was worried also that a load of the traditional RPG elements, such as choosing attributes, would be too complicated, but it really isn't!

As much as I'd like to say that you should not buy a hyped game if your gut-feel is that you wont like it ( I did just this with BF3), but I think you might be pleasantly surprsed by this.

Skyrim will easily be my most played single player game of all time, I'm 22 hours in and I've only done about 1 of the main guests. Instead I've been doing a load of side quests (because you actually get sucked into the numerous stories and factions, not just to get loot/cash/exp), exploring the vast world (which has many unknown dungeons and events to uncover), and just becoming part of communities (spent a while saving up for a house, decorating it and adding my skull trophies). I'm still only level 15 and feel I've had enough content already that would have been the whole sum of some single player games, and I'm still on the intro relatively speaking. Just buy it :).

I bought Skyrim mainly because I like to see large roaming worlds like Oblivion, Fallout etc have and usually just mess around, stealing things and running away before dying lots and quitting.

With Skyrim I haven't done this, I started playing and have ended up being hooked, it's GOTY for me by far and I'm not usually an RPG kinda guy. Fallout 3 I enjoyed (and thought I preferred the setting) but Skyrim is just excellent in so many ways!

The story is easy enough to grasp (I'm BAD at remembering characters/story lines) but I've held on enough to understand and enjoy it. Plus there's tons of mini missions which have all been unique and actually interesting with interesting rewards.

The size and depth of the game is mind boggling, it's clear the guys who made it loved what they were putting together.
