*** The Elder Scrolls 5 - Skyrim Official Thread ***

enjoying not reading anything or using a wiki, i'm just trying to figure stuff out for myself in the world and in general its been very encouraging and rewarding.

Dont get me wrong thats what Im doing and will continue to do on my first run through. Next time I will happly use the giude and just take in all the things I may have missed, also Im a bit of a geek about this game I have really wanted it ever since I first heard about it.

The guide is just the icing on the cake because I have heard so much about it and it seems extremly good value for money :D

Nah that's OK, I was just confused why some do and some don't.
Thought I might be failing somewhere :)

I find generally it is because you haven't been told specifics when given the quest, and it unlocks later, like the redguard woman one, had some like it in Oblivion, where talking in the town usually helped, but I have seen guards harassing a women miles from the town she is supposed to be in... love the randomness of it.
Hate it when I give up all my weapons and armour for a specific quest and a bloody dragon lands outside Solitude.....

I have donated my guide to a mate. Was a great guide but way too much information for me. I will just stick to hitting things with big swords.

It's good to read the start of the guide though where it explains all the races/skills so you can make the most of picking the right character. I've avoided all the walkthrough section.

Just received my guide there and now taking a quick look through, completely blown away with the amount of content in it, its mind bogoling.

Its very impressive the quality of the pages and art work, well worth 19.99.

Very pleased indeed

Can some enemies resist soul trap ? I just killed a giant with my greatsword which has soul tap enchanted on it and when it was dead i got a message saying giant resisted soul trap  I have empty grand and greater soul gems in my item list.

Would you guys say it is worth picking this up at christmas, if I never got into oblivion (about an hour into it). Also should I try out oblivion again.

To be honest with you, I played Oblivion and I really enjoyed it, but I didn't actually play it that much (got to level 12, put in about 25 - 30 hours). I've already put far more time into Skyrim than I ever did with Oblivion. It's a far better game, the experience is better, they've just made everything available to you better and more accessible. I couldn't say for sure if you'd like it, it'd depend on whether you like a rich story with loads of interesting side quests to keep yourself occupied, but I am thoroughly enjoying it and I know many others that are too. Easily my GOTY :)

Oh I wasn't judging, just letting you know my experiences with the game have been very absorbing, i'm usually very obsessive about min maxing characters.

I actually didn't read, see or hear much of the advertising media before the game came out and to be honest didn't really care, then everyone started talking about it and I picked it up, its everything that was good about previous Bethesda games without most of the problems. Absolutely fantastic.

You should see them glowing a bit when it's active on them. Maybe have a low dmg dagger with soul trap on so when they're nearly dead you can switch to that and whack them without killing until the effect is active.

Well you and all the other videos I have seen may have persuaded me to pick this up. I'll look forward to getting this.
