****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Are you using a **** case? If so, stop it :p.

lol only using the official mesh cover :p It's not that.

Just tried calling someone with 2 different modem files and it seems the same. If it helps, people say it's their own voice that sound echoy, not mine.

james.miller - I don't see a noise cancellation when in a call? There is only speaker, mute, headset.

No, DarkKnight kernel is Siyah kernel for people that might accidently break their phone :p.

oL: Noise cancellation should be above all the buttons on the call app, next to where it shows the length of the call (assuming you're using the standard one).

I installed Better Battery Stats. It hasn't found any rogue apps. But, my phone is on 80% after 1hr 55mins, with the screen being on for 26 minutes, it does however say the Android OS has been for 1hr10mins, is this normal? Doesn't seem it, I've never seen the Android OS above Display for battery usage before.

Think you might find it is the mesh case causing it, several people way back earlier in the thread also reported callers saying it was echoing and most of them had the official mesh cover.

Just take it off and try you got nothing to loose.

Does "suspend" and "events/0" show up as using a lot under processes? That'd be the "AOS bug" draining your battery :(.

Newer ROMs reduce the occurance, as does disabling WiFi/Data. Custom kernels like Siyah can reduce it (or for some, remove it completely), but it also hides any evidence of it occuring which I hate.

Edit: The above was for CasKirensys :p.

I've copied them both, do they look normal?

They're pretty high, and explain why your Android AOS usage and subsequent battery drain is high.

I played Game Dev Story for about 3 hours last night, that shows up in BetterBatteryStats as about 6.5 minutes. Currently at about 18 hours up time my phone shows about 50 seconds for each :).

What ROM/Kernel are you using?

Oh I found it by pressing the menu button during a call, maybe because I'm using GO Dialer. Anyway turning the noise cancellation off seems to fix it... now I need to find a way to turn it off permanently because it's on by default.

e : I've found this thread on xda: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372718 which should be a fix to turn off NS permanently.

However I don't understand this line: "Assuming your ROM is deodexed, decompile Phone.apk and look for the PhoneUtils.smali file."

I can't post there to ask either because I'm an xda noob! (need 10 posts), anyone know how where "Phone.apk" is and how to decompile it?

e2: I've managed to find the Phone.apk file it was in vrtheme-backup/system/app/Phone.apk

Now, I've opened it with 7zip, but I can't find the "PhoneUtils.smali" file.... :/ anyone know?

Is there any fix for this AOS bug, without flashing the kernel? I really don't have confidence in myself to not mess up :(

http://www.miui-au.com/add-ons/apktool/ :).

The easiest way would be to bin the case though :p.

Update to the latest ROM using Kies, and disable WiFi when idle (the bug only occurs when idle as it's the phone trying to go to deep sleep then being told not to over and over again) are about the only things you can do if you're not wanting to flash stuff yourself. It's virtually impossible to brick an SGS2 though :p.

Well, I would like to use a Miui rom, but I want to do some more reading up before I do. I can't help being scared of bricking it :p

What ROM would you advise me to use? I like the look of the MIUI ones, but I don't really know what I'm looking for :S

I was selling mine, and just did the factory reset on the phone, will this be enough so the new owner is basically getting it like the day it was bought?

Yep, make sure you wipe the SD Card :).

Cas, I don't like MIUI personally but if you like the look of it you may as well give it a try. Once you've rooted and put a custom ROM on once you'll realise how easy it is to swap to another if you don't like it :).
