2012 Weight Loss Thread

I lost just over 4 stone last year but from December 3rd til now I gave up on the diet, I believe I weigh around 19st at the moment.

Looking to lose another 4st again this year which will put me at 15st at 6ft 4, I'll keep you posted of progress as I did last year.

Good luck to everyone planning on changing their lives this year!

I started third week of Jan 2011 and lost 8 stone over the course of the year dropping from 23 to just under 15. I took a few weeks off and put on a few pounds in December but I'm back on the plan now and put together a blog showing my progress this time. If you'd like to follow my blog you can at: http://simontowell.wordpress.com

Fair play fella that's pretty good going. Keep it up. It won't be long before your down to your ideal weight.

Amazing achievement there, well done.

What was/is your situation with loose skin after all the weight loss, it's something I'm a bit worried about, anything extra you can do to prevent it?

I need to lose 8 stone too, almost half way there.

Rusty Noob, congrats on the loss so far, any more tips?

Thanks mate!

The biggest thing for me to get my head around was to change my lifestyle and not go on a diet as such. I've dieted before and lost good amounts of weight in a short amount of time but I've never been able to sustain it, this time round I'm trying to think along the lines of

"What would a normal person do?"

By this I mean I'm not eating diet foods, I'm not cutting anything out of my diet and I'm not eating things purely because the diet book says to.

One trap I fell into before was I would substitute high fat/calorie items for low fat/calorie things but eat the same qauntity of it, so when I came off the diet the weight piled back on, so "what would a normal person do?" They would still have the full fat high calorie version but eat less of it.

For me it's been about portion control and not binge eating regularly - a normal person has the odd binge, which means I do too :p

Yes, that's the method I'm going to use. Smaller portions of the same stuff I eat now, which is pretty decent but cut out all the cakes, biscuits, sweets, chocolate and Coke. :D I've already given up coffee and tea which I had with sugar in but also had to have cakes or biscuits to accompany them. No coffee/tea = no cakes/biscuits.

For me its been a total transformation of diet as I am now Type 2 diabetic so its more of a lifestyle change rather than a diet.

I still need to make my portion size smaller though.

Work out the calories you're consuming per day as you'll need to keep adjusting your diet as you progress and it makes it easier.

You might want to put a rest day in the middle of the week, 5 days straight will make you tired/sore, especially as the first few weeks are the worst until your body adjusts.

You could do better - on the days your doing cardio work on the biceps. The increased strength exercise will serious increase weight loss over the months and push you to the max.

What would be a better plan for me then? Wouldn't cardio speed up my weight loss?

Also what do you think of my diet?

Congratulations on being almost half way there.

I don't really have any issues with loose skin, though I was keeping my losses to about 3lbs a week. Only the first couple of weeks had large losses. This I think has helped and given my skin a chance to shrink. Skin is pretty good at changing shape when required.

I think as long as you lose about 2-3lbs a week you shouldn't have any issues with loose skin. Hope this helps.

thats what worries me as i am 6 foot and weighing over 20 stone (to many mistakes in life) the gut has a lot of excess skin and if i loose the gut it turns to a sight where i can't go around topless and show my manly chest hairs lol

this time next year i plan to post i have made a difference :) and say i can do it instead of sitting doing nothing and getting bigger :< I am doing this so i am in for the 2012 fat losers :)

I think the main issue with loose skin, is the older you get the less elasticity it has, so I suspect losing weight older will be more likely to give you it. Skin elasticity starts to go roundabout 30 so that's why I'm keen to get my weight down.

lol just my luck i best start now since i turn 31 this year :<

i know this is off topic but how many days a week should u exercise without hurting your self to much?

Really need to lose weight, according to my iPhone App (Target Weight) I've just crossed the line in to obese :(

I'm 5ft 8", Medium frame and currently weigh 14st 6lb, I would like to get down to 11st by end of June. Which means I need to lose an average of 2lb a week.

I have a very physical job as a home shopping delivery driver but it's my diet that really lets me down, I'm always binging on biscuits and chocolate while driving and to be honest I eat pretty poorly when I get home. I also don't do any excersise other than work and I cycle 5 mile each way to and from work but only when it's warm and dry!

I've started today by cutting out snacking but that's as far as I've got, need to sort out better meals and an exercise routine probably involving cycling, running and swimming. I'm not really good with gyms as I'm one of those that will get bored and not turn up after a couple of weeks. I really need a lifestyle change!

I'm "only" 24, so I'm hoping my skin doesn't go too bad then.

I am losing about 3-4lbs a week though, (tablets I'm taking aid with weight loss) so I will just see what happens.

Is BMI a load of rubbish? I am never going to be 14 stone :p At 17.5 stone I didn't look or feel fat in anyway at all.

BMI is really meant for detecting statistical trends in large populations.

Martin Johnson was obese by BMI when he won the rugby world cup.....

If I keep a good routine up can I get to my 17 stone mark with a good amount of muscle or is that something that needs to be worked on after the weight loss.
