****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

So you lose stable video playback and have the occasional (more that occasional for me) overheating and force close issues but what do you gain ?

I dont understand. theres a thread on xda full of people with issues and devs saying don't use it as a daily yet people on here are recommending it to people:/

I didn't see anyone recommend it as a daily to anyone?!

It's probably pre-alpha, stuff is missing but I've found it very stable so far. I don't know what your issue was but I've never even had a FC with it, and I've tried most of the builds for the last month. Certainly no overheating.

It seems with android people running the same ROM have different experiences, as well as a different definition of stable. I think Android is fundamentally flawed in that respect. Needs a total rewrite to be honest, it's exploded in popularity too quickly and everything is so fragmented across handsets. Google should have locked it down a bit more from the manufacturers adding their own things, and development probably would have been more controlled. ICS is a lot smoother an experience though, I have to say.

Out of interest, is anyone still using Trebuchet with CM9?

No, don't like the app drawer or lack of sliding dock. Using Go Launcher with the ICS theme.

I wouldn't say CM9 is ready as a stable daily ROM, but its not far off. Current issues for me:

  • Lack of FM radio
  • Touchscreen sensitivity issues
  • One of my Exchange accounts won't sync calendar (works on all other ROMs), my other Exchange account works fine though.
  • Battery life, whilst not terrible, is nowhere near what you get with 2.3 ROMs. I can get a day out of it but I'm not a heavy user, I think lots of people would kill it well within a day.

Sticking with it for now though as loving the new design and features.

Is there a way to force uninstall stock apps - like Social and gaming hubs, Suggests, Readers Hub, Polaris Office, Mini Diary etc etc...

I've rooted the phone and installed an adblocker program (though not sure if its working!) but would love to get read of some of this bloatware!

The FM radio will never work on CM7/9 SGS2.

Main things that don't work is video codecs/camera and USB storage mounting.

Cool - i have MyBackUp Pro from my HTC Hero days!

So i select the app and then "freeze"? There is a "Wipe Data" button also?

What does "freezing" actually do?

Freezing an app hides it from the system and archives it so you also free up the space it took up. When you unfreeze it restores to the exact state it was frozen at, unlike an uninstall where you have to redo settings/logins etc for that app again. With Titanium you can elect to keep it within the Market flags too so Market updates can be applied to frozen apps.

Wipe cache just deletes the settings/cache files for that app which could also free up more space.

freezing applications stops them running and showing in your app draw - One stop shorter than deleting the APK file.

For me i'll use a stripped Samsung ICS ROM with trebuchet launcher once they are both up to par, best of both worlds if you ask me.

Im using Trebuchet at the moment - Finding it a refreshing change from the usual :)

Currently on the latest CM9 build and for what is essentially an alpha, I'm very impressed at how stable/useable it is day to day :)

Using the latest ICS now( ICS 4.0.3 XXLP1), much better than previous ones! Web page scrolling nice and fast now as the older version gave me problems...no crash or any problems YET

Signal bars stuck at full seems to be the only problem with my quick play. :)

Will be the same for me I think.

I tried CM9 earlier, it was a little sluggish in places compared to Checkrom, I hate that I couldn't turn the back lights off either on the keys(unless it is hidden?), No TV out, USB still fairly broken (although samba worked fine) I still prefer to transfer over cable.

I do like the new messaging app on ICS though & other little touches.

Not stable enough for my likings to be a daily yet.
