Road Cycling Essentials

We've got secure underground parking here which is awesome, I can leave my bike unlocked, lights and speedo still mounted and not worry about it at all.

Plus living in Guernsey is a benefit given how safe it is already.

There's covered sheds for about 60 bikes at my work with CCTV and secure fixing points. People have been known to leave their bikes unlocked but I'm not quite that trusting. I leave my lights/saddlebag with tools attached but take my Garmin with me.

I stick my bike next to all the repair bikes...

I liked the road version of that video as that's day to day for me! Along with:

"How much for a bike? Could get a car for that?"
"I'd want an engine for that price!!!"
"My brother/dad/cousin/cat is a good cyclist he's got one of those is it trex? Trax?"

Got a look build going out in the next few weeks.

Look 566 frame
Dura ace C50s clinchers
Ultegra groupset(unless he finds the extra for dura ace)
Pro Vibe 7s bar/stem/seapost
Gp4000s tyres/look keos.

All for a guy who came in to spend £300 on a mountain bike three years ago. This is is 5th bike I'm sure!

Nice.

I was looking (no pun intended) at a lovely 695 on Weight Weenies the other day. They do make beautiful bikes! :)

The guy that bought the 695 frame from us is bringing it back in March to get it built it so that'll be a fun day. I'd love a 695 in the black/carbon with sram red(the yellow edition one).

I'd love to have the shop in an area where custom builds were more common.

Just have random sets of £1k wheels lying around, selection of frames from Looks to Felts and even winter frames and various selections/sizes of bars and stems.

I've just realised you're from Whitley Bay! You doing the Northern Rock Cyclone this year? Or the Great North Bike Ride?
You from up here like George?

Plan is to do both yeah - entered the NRC (104 miler) and will probably enter the GNBR at some point.

Planning to run the Great North Run, do a couple of triathlons (never done one before but wan't to give it a go) and race CX next season too so I'm going to be busy training this year!

Well, my wife has just put down a deposit on a beautiful cottage in the Pyrenees...during the Tour de France! :)

Yes, that's right, Tour fever has well and truly got me. Last year was great, but Brittany & Normandy are both pretty flat and the riders whizzed past. This year I am going to be able to go to at least 2 of the hard stages, and I'll be taking my Cervelo (with some nice < 1400g hand built wheels) and having a crack at all of the hard climbs. If I can get down to 80KG by July then my PWR should be 4 exactly :)

So excited! Love Pro Cycling sooooooo much! :)

Cav was a bit arsey with me the other night when I asked a question on SKY interactive chat, so I may pull him backwards to teach him a lesson.

Awesome! I'm staying in the Pyrenees later this year too (with Orbea in tow), but in September unfortunately. I even miss the Vuelta by a couple of weeks otherwise I'd have driven over and watched.

Still, I can't complain really - mountains! :D

Originally. Left when I was young, but go back at least 3 times a year. I have a big family spread through Morpeth, Cramlington, Blyth, Ashington, Bedlington & Jesmond.

I ran the GNR in 2002. Was cream crackered at the end - the finish along the sea front is a lot longer then you think when you turn on to it! ;)

I always take my training bike with me, perhaps next time I should give you a shout and you can show me one of your local loops?

Does anyone know if these fit around 23mm tyres and (more importantly!) disk brakes? Would like to get some form of easy to fit mudguards.
No problem with 23mm tyres. If the brake caliper is on the front of the fork then they will fit no problems. The top of the mudguard is held on by a zip tie round the caliper bolt, as mentioned. You won't have this, so I would put two zip ties either side of the top of the fork so you have a point to thread the main zip tie through. At the back do the same on the bridge where the rear coliper would normally mount :)
