New Samsung S23A700D 120Hz

I will confirm the monitor does not have ECO motion sensor and light sensor technologies... even though I have seen Samsung websites having them on their overview pages.

Thank you for confirming this. The Samsung website is indeed terrible for trying to confirm various features and specifications - they seem to just copy and paste willy nilly from other models and change the model number here and there without double checking things. Quite annoying! But glad you are having a good time with the monitor and you found the test settings from my S27A750D review helpful. :)

I recieved my 700d 2 days ago and i've got to say im really impressed with it i used to get screen tears and juddering with my previous Samsung 2032mw LCD (the tv/monitor one) but i did have it for 6-7 years so in tech terms its a dinosaur this thing is in a different league for quality and smoothness.

I gave the 3D a test to see what it was like (having only tried Nvidia at the Gadget show last year) and its as good if not better from what i could remember (on 2d>3D conversion mode) the only thing is im not sure which mode i should be using to get the best from 3D =S

It's hooked up with the supplied DVI 2D>3D seems to give the best results using the monitor setting then Frame sequential but that one only seems to work when i run the games through that Tri Def third party program that came with the screen and some games had a problem launching from this they would run in windowed mode and i couldn't get them to go into full screen Im asuming if i want frame sequential i need to use HDMI ?

then top to bottom and side by side modes on the screen options just throw the image out of proportion making it un-viewable im guessing those need hdmi too.

And finally there is IZ3D ATI's own version of 3D i think ? it looks like another type of Tri Def that needs to be paid for after a 30day trial will this be the best with my ati card or should i stick with another 3D option ?

came home today from hospital (after spending 12 days) & checked the monitor which was supposed to have been repaired by samsung for having 1 stuck green pixel only to be greeted by 2 dead dark pixels. very very bad

the refund for the 1st monitor still hasn't been made so i contacted the german retailer & got my refund. very bad

Some very bad luck there. Took me two attempts at getting a fault free monitor. At two bad ones I would probably have given up and moved on. Just sounds like too much hastle to sort out.

Did samsung replace the monitor or repair it? I would kick up a right storm about that, good luck :(

only repair option was available because they said they don't have this model in stock.

I still can't get 3d to work properly.

I have 2 programs installed , syncmaster 3d game launcher (tridef 3d) which came with the screen, and Tridef 3d which I downloaded from the website versions 1.1.2 and 3.4.20.

Here is a screenie of my display settings:

When launching a game it goes into 3d mode and the effect looks good, but the image somehow isnt right, I am getting 2 crosshairs on the screen. How do I get the images to align properly or whatever the actual problem is?

Am I using the correct settings?

I am using a 6950 connected via the dl dvi that came with it. Monitor is on 120hz mode and 3d settings on the screen are left off.

Select 'frame sequential' from the drop down if you can. This is the correct and preferred 3D operating mode on AMD cards such as yours. I have also had alignment issues with the SBS mode on AMD hardware.

No where in the options does it mention frame sequential.

Should it be registering my monitor on automatic detection? Nowhere in the model does it mention this monitor.

On auto detect the only models are

Is there any particular reason you are using the generic Tridef 3D instead of the Syncmaster branded ones that come with the monitor? Usually the Samsung-specific ones will initiate Frame Sequential mode on the monitor automatically. There may be a driver conflict that is causing this not to work correctly as you have both Tridef versions installed. Also make sure the monitor drivers are installed so that it registers in device manager as the correct model and not 'plug and play monitor'.

I read somewhere to install the one off the disk and then update with the latest version online? The one it came with had hardly any profiles installed so I assumed I needed an update?

Yes the monitor is showing up in device manager as the correct model.

Thanks for the help btw, its appreciated.

The only way I figured to get the profile updates for the samsung version is to install the generic version & copy them over :(

So I STILL can't get it working.

Can anyone write me some idiot proof instructions on how to set it up and links to the exact files I need.

Running a 6950 connected with the dl dvi that came with the screen.

Are you absolutely sure the glasses are working? You can check by pressing the 3D mode button on the monitor and selecting any 3D mode you want. Then press the power button on the glasses - it should light up green. When you put the glasses on and look at a light source it should flicker noticeably.

Yeah the glasses were definitely working.

When I installed just the syncmaster software and load a game, without glasses it doesn't look a lot different maybe just a bit darker and there is hardly a 3d effect while wearing the glasses.

Then I installed the latest version online and get much better 3d effect but it is not alligned.

Just wandering if I am missing something. Using just the samsung software there are no display options or anything.

Do I need any other drivers or something?

I'm not really sure what could be wrong. Try loading BF3 which uses its own system (don't start TriDef and don't press the monitors 3D button) and then enable the stereoscopic mode in the options. Your monitor should display a prompt that you are viewing 3D content and the image should be noticably misaligned. When you turn on the glasses and look at the screen it should appear correctly aligned with a slight 3D effect. You can use the slider to enhance the depth effect. Also make sure you have the monitor connected to the correct DVI port on your GPU - one of the ports on the 6950 is single link. I don't think that is a problem though as it seems you are getting 120Hz as reported in that screenshot above.

Just tried it on bf3 as you said, when switching 3d on the menu says "watching 3d image" and adjusts but all it seems to do is lower the brightness, no 3d effect and the glasses are definitely on.

Do I have to install any other drivers or anything?

On the monitor menu it states it's in 120hz mode

You don't have Nvidia 3D Vision installed from a previous GPU or anything do you? I would personally remove everything to do with TriDef and then install only what came on the CD. If the integrated 3D isn't working properly on Battlefield 3 then something could be up with the monitor itself.

No I don't. Ok tomorrow I will try removing all graphics drivers, all tridef software and monitor drivers and start fresh.

I hope nothign is wrong with the monitor itself, there IS quite a lot of backlight bleed at the bottom of the screen but I doubt it to be faulty because I can get 3d to work through the new software but like I said the alignment is off and it starts to hurt your eyes very quickly.
