GAME lose another supplier

You can still buy games at sainsbury's, whsmiths, tesco's etc. But it's still pretty bad. GS/Game often can't compete with supermarket prices!

Gamestop are in no position to buy them out, they're still closing stores left right and centre.

In the US or over here?

The only reason I say it is because at their highest shares were at 296.75 each, that was in the middle of 2008. Now they are at 5.42 each. Thats down from 6.41 at start of trading on Wednesday last week.

At the current price the market cap is under £19 million. That's nothing for a company that large.

tbh i was in Game on sunday. and they had ps vita 4gb cards cheaper than tesco.

ive found tesco to be pretty poor for games pricing recently not to mention in my local one stock quantities are pants.

i cant understand why game dont cut ther margins and try to increase turnover as a result.

and second hand is nearly always cheaper from CEX.

REALLY???? I have been down to my local one a few times and the prices they sell their "second hand" games for are almost full price, some even are full price and they have been out for weeks and are SECOND HAND!!! Personally I have NEVER seen a bargain down there.

Maybe your local one is a lot better, but I think they are absolute daylight robbers.

The thing is they started off nice and cheap as loss leaders, now they are realising they can bump up the prices because places like GAME have upped the price they sell for, so people will still buy from Tesco because they are cheaper than other places on the high street.

Things aren't looking good... Mixed feelings on seeing them go (if they do) but in general they have been overpriced for a while.

Well i picked up Revelations from there with no DLC code for £20 a while back, whilst GAME were selling it second hand (no DLC code) for £37.

Same story with L4D 2 way back, and RDR.

I don't know if it's bully tactics from EA but if the withdrawal is true then it is just another nail in the coffin, possibly several nails considering who and what EA are.

I've been using Grainger Games recently for pre-owned and sale stuff. Prices seem pretty decent. Oh and on Saturday I bought Gears 3 from Blockbuster pre-owned for £9.99. I've not seen it that cheap anywhere else. Other than that I buy online but I do like to browse if I am in town.

the independents will be happy, but this may effect blockbuster and game station! I think blockbuster owns both

Gamestation is owned by GAME group plc. So they would enter administration together.

HMV get a slight extension on their lifeline. Blockbuster, Grainger games and independents will also benefit when GAME goes bust - assuming no-one does buy some of the stores and tries to relaunch or rebrand some of the existing company.

I would imagine the website would be relaunched seperately in a similar manner to the Zavvi website.

GAME had a very good record on exclusive 'true' CE's or LE's so it will likely be more of a pain to track who has these now, with no reward points or less quidco.

In case anyone hasn't understood yet - this is the four UK retailers you need to order from now to secure an N7 ME3 edition:

A friend of mine works for the above and posted this earlier on today on our forums.

Incase anyone doesn't already know and have their pre-orders with GAME or Gamestation.
As some know i work for the company and less than an hour ago i found out during my day off that we're not getting any EA games in March except for SSX this week. The games that wont be stocked are Mass Effect 3, Tigerwoods 2012 and Fifa Street.
You can get a refund on your Deposit and £5 on your reward card IF you still have the original recieipt. If you don't then it's store credit i'm afraid.
Now according to Head office this is not the end of GAME, far from it, they're actually far better off than they were a few months ago.

I'm going to try and explain what we've been told and it may not make the most sense, just a warning.

Last month GAME had no credit insurance, the Bank took it back and it totally messed everything up. GAME then worked closely with all publishers to get everything sorted and come to an agreement. That was done as long as certain criteria was covered and over the past few weeks those criteria have been hammered out with the publishers.

Now this is where it gets a bit strange but some others may understand it more than me.

One of the criteria was to manage money better. Certain publishers recieved more money from us like EA and Nintendo based on their brand name as they're stuff sold very well.
Now GAME tried to change this by paying all publishers the same + extra depending on the games released, sounds fair right? Well not according to Nintendo (who GAME haven't stocked anything from for a month) and EA, they both want more and GAME can't do it.
So EA have pulled all of the release titles in March away from GAME (except SSX as i presume that's already gone through). EA decided to be awkward and thought that GAME would buckle due to recent problems. GAME haven't and so this has happened. The Exclusive Collectors Edition is now available through Zavvi, Play and a couple of other places, so if you missed it first time you can get a second chance at getting a copy.

This happened four years ago with Army of Two from EA, GAME refused to stock it due to pricing conflicts. The thing is that GAME is still 40% of the UK market so it's going to hurt EA and the sales of Mass Effect 3 more than it would hurt GAME. Mainly due to GAME now having a lot more free cash to buy other stock and that there really isn't much profit in new games anymore.
Yes GAME will lose customers in hte short-term, but it's going to be mostly forgotten by April.

Got an email saying

We have some very important news for you - as of March 1st the Gameplay website is merging with our sister site, Gamestation.co.uk.

The gaming experts at Gamestation.co.uk offer the same great value and service as Gameplay, and they'd love you to shop with them. As a valued Gameplay customer we'd like to offer you a £5 voucher code to spend at Gamestation.co.uk

I really liked gameplay.com I hate gamestation site, try and search for a game and you get the whole preowned list shoved in your face and the site is terrible for search for cheap games.

Maybe so but that's pretty foolhardy.

Foolhardy is putting it lightly. Its retarded. Mass Effect 3 is the first biggest release of 2012 and will sell by the millions and Game have said no to getting a slice of that pie knowing how much crap theyre already in?????? Someone needs letting go.

Game may be in trouble but they need to do whatever they can to keep the little business they have. First Ubisoft, Mario Party 9 and now Mass Effect 3 (not forgetting all EA titles due out his year if it doesnt get resolved). Not good
