What film did you watch last night?

Watched Safe House the other night.

8/10

Got a massive Bourne vibe about, well acted, plenty of action a couple of twists, would recommend.

Drive - 7/10

Felt very fresh and had an amazing soundtrack. Played the deer hunter trick with a very slow start which paid off with tension and surprising violence, but there was a shockingly low amount of dialogue at the start of the film which was just unecessary really and didn't feel real at all.

There was, my girlfriend gave up on it after about 10 minutes lol.. Yet to talking her around to watching it again after seeing for myself it is a good film.

The violence was a bit extreme though. Great sound track, I love that first song especially when he's driving at night at teh start of the film. Cool song.

Space cowboys.

Some old timers come out of retirement in an attempt to fix an orbiting satellite. Clint eastwood is heavily involved. The film is decent but lacking in a bit of atmosphere near the end.

My take.

I enjoyed it, I got the Bourne feel too, massively with the action and thriller type story line.

I really felt that the action was too, I'm not sure, just too much. It was well paced and well shot, that isn't what I'm saying, I'd have rather made the film a bit longer (it felt a good length though) or dropped an action scene and had more time spent developing the story, relationships or characters.

It's not quite an 8/10 for me. It's a good film, good action film, very well shot, the setting is absolutely amazing too. It has a certain style, visually, about it too. I just felt it was lacking that extra factor with the story / characters to push it across in to being a really good film.

Saying that, I thought Big D was very good, but he's usually pretty good. I was also really impressed by Mr Reynolds, brilliant bit of casting that. I've been very critical of him in the past, not in this though.

Go watch Inception, then watch it again :) Or same could be said with many other films with ambiguous endings..

I'll address this first, I watch films I enjoy several times anyway and I tend to rematch films as I'm a huge film geek / nerd, so they interest me. I enjoy watching a well made film and spotting things I missed before.

I don't feel that applies with this ~type of film though.

why would you watch such a film more than once?

i'm not for one minute suggesting you enjoyed the content but i don't see why anyone would watch it more than once, even at all if i'm honest...

I didn't 'enjoy' the content no, I just have more then a passing interest in film. The film intrigues me, certainly not on a content level, but on many other levels, film making, philosophical, type levels. Films tell you a great deal about the type of director and such.

I don't think the point he was making was relating to the ending, more the rather alarming content in the film.

I've seen some incredibly horrible things on the internet and I'm not at all squeamish, but I just can't see the point of watching a film like that. Children and babies being killed and raped for the sake of it is just bizarre in the extreme.

I've watched a lot of horrible things and seen many too unfortunately. I'm very desensitised to a lot of what other people find distressing and such, I was, offended by the film and at times I certainly found it very uncomfortable viewing.

The film's just baffled me, as I said previously, the director clearly knows how to make a film, content aside it did things very well but I just don't understand why you'd make a film with such horrific 'shock' value, you could have made something beautiful and brilliant. (beautiful from a cinematic and story point of view, even horror films can be beautiful in their form and telling)

It's a really ~tough film to talk about, because the content is so abstract and, well plain horrible. I certainly wouldn't call it 'arty' or anything like that.

I think the director tried to make a name for himself, tried to do something different, push the boat out kind of thing, but instead of pushing it out a little, he got lost at sea and drown. A better metaphor would be, instead of testing the 'suitability' of a horror film by pushing little things, dipping your toes in to the water, he jumped in with concrete boots.

It's a bad film, an appalling film, but it's quite well made. I (personally) wouldn't expect him to get much work in future after that, or whatever he does make might not be 'suitable' for a widescreen audience or in fact any audience that well are 'normal'. (I'm not getting in a 'well what is normal' debate, but it's safe to say this isn't 'normal' horror, nor 'pushing the boundaries' horror)

The Women in Black - 6/10
The story seemed to have been coined up around there ideas on how to shock the audience leaving gaping big plot holes. Harry Potter did well but is far to young for the part he played.

Thor
7/10 Wasn't bad, quite enjoyed it and Natalie Portman is hot! Was in the mood for a film where I could switch off and not have to think too much!

What happens in Vegas.

Didn't expect much from this but was pleasantly surprised, funny throughout and Diaz is hot!

7/10

forgot to add this the other day.....had the misfortune of putting on BBC 3 on wednesday and watched starship troopers......truly awful and doesn't even merit a rating!
