It's definitely damage to the rim, there is a smaller one further along on the rim. The damage doesn't look that bad in the picture due to the flash, but the damage goes quite a bit into the rim, enough to cause the pads to catch on it when braking and make a noise. I will have these replaced by the bike shop as they are supposed to be new. Gouge was probably not the best suited word to describe the damage :)

I wonder if it is to do with them being a bit careless with metal tyres levers, as I can see they have been used.

I would like some help with the brake pad alignment issues in my original post please :)

Good luck. I had one of these for my Defy, it wasn't up to the job. After nearly ruining my phone, I decided to get a Garmin which has a properly designed mount. I know that wasn't what you wanted, but having had personal experience of it I felt it worth saying :)

Thanks. I was looking at that very one yesterday and it doesn't get great reviews. Garmin isn't an option at the moment as I got this phone for next to nothing!

I'm always a bit nervous with mounts now, my was going down a big hill (so pretty fast) the other day and hit only a small bump, sent my garmin flying off to what i thought was a nasty death. Luckily i got it home took it apart and it had only knocked a connection out of place.

Although the plastic is a bit battered now!

So good luck finding one!

Thanks. From searching around none of these mounts seem to be rock solid on the bike. I had a cheap ebay mount that I used with my PDA a while back and that fell apart really quickly. I may look at fashioning something myself.

The mount I had was flawed in that there was a separate bracket that held the phone, which then attached to the handlebar clamp. The clamp itself was secure enough to allow me to pick up the entire bike by it, but the little bracket thing didn't have a very secure clip to the handlebar clamp. This could have been solved by using cable ties or glue, but by the time I realised it was an issue it was too late, and I'd already broken it under my back wheel.

Do you want to use the phone to simply track your rides? If so, I found that the GPS signal was strong enough to work properly even with the phone in my pocket. The only reason I wanted to mount it to my handlebar was to try to use it for navigation. That has another flaw, in that having the display on constantly as well as the GPS radio absolutely destroys the battery - I'm talking about 75% gone in less than four hours.

You're right; I've been using my other phone which tracks fine whilst in my camelbak. I do want it for navigation as well as tracking and using the phone with a bluetooth headset. I've got one of those USB battery packs which doesn't weigh very much. With that I can have GPS and the screen on for several hours and the phone battery will stay at 100%. Only problem is that having that connected, the phone ceases to become waterproof so it's only something I could use in dry conditions. I rarely go out for a ride when it's peeing it down though.

Someone please convince me that I don't need to buy a Cento Uno after seeing one in the showroom and wanting it instantly. :(

You definitely do not need one!

A beautiful italian carbon frame that will make you faster, get all the girls checking you out and all the guys asking you endless questions about it.
I cant see why anybody would need one? :p

@ Blackdragon, lift your brake pad up a little.....problem solved?

@ ultimatebadger, i ll weigh it tomorro for you but overall bike weight means very little if your considering 2 or 3 bikes.... plus any excess weight on my bike was on the saddle which was 362g compared to the fiziks 216g and the horrendous wheel set but i have ordered ultegra rs80s anyway...

Buy it! Just bought a Wilier Gran Turismo Athena a month or so ago and they are beautiful. I keep finding new frame details I hadn't previously spotted. It's also a lovely bike to ride. Firm but supple, fantastic handling (Cento UNO supposed to be even better) and you dont see many others on the road

PBK have both the pro race 3s, pro 4 race service courses and conti gp4000s in stock in my size but with a £10 difference. Just over £50 for a pair of pro 3s, £60 for pro 4s and £70 for the contis.

Do the pro 4s roll much slower being a non race tyre? And do the pro 3s wear and puncture that much? The reviews seem almost 50/50 yes or no!

I should also say I'm not a great fan of heavy rain so not gonna be out in the mega wet but this is Plymouth so it does rain.
Having said that I guess any will be quicker than my current set(Swalbe Blizzard in 25mm)?

we have some pro race 3s still on offer for £24.99 each if your interested?

That's where I saw them! Although the website says £26.24, not a mega difference.

Well I guess from that then Pro 3s are the best choice!
Might even treat myself to a 100mm stem now we're looking at the cheapest option, and with the advice from you guys my gears are staying put.

A big thanks to the advice from y'all, shame no one come from Plym to give me a riding partner. I've contacted the local club but even the beginners group is pushing 40 miles and no way I can do that right now.

Oh, well they don't sell stems and from what I've read, and feel, mine is too short.
I think this was when I ordered my bike I was still sizing it up as mtb so erred on the smaller of two sizes which gave a shorter top tub and stem.
I'm now trying to work out if a 30g loss is worth the extra £30 to go from pro to team. I would think as non rotational it's not, and I can buy the ti bolts myself if I really want them!
