*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

I'm thinking of selling my transformer prime and getting this iPad. This will be my first iOS device. Main reasons for changing are apps mainly and games. Android lags behind in terms of content, especially games. Is watching HD movies good on the iPad(is the aspect ratio an issue?).

Was actually having the conversation on another forum just recently.

Whilst HD movies do look great on the iPad3, the 4:3 aspect does mean you get more black bars than you would on a 16:9 or 16:10 device.

That said, I think Apple have called this one right. Whilst 16:9 or 16:10 may be more suitable for movies or TV viewing, that's about it - for literally everything else the 4:3 aspect makes far more sense. I feel that 16:9/10 is far more of a compromise in general than is 4:3.

I need to find a picture of the black bars, although im sure it wont be too bad. I might miss the keyboard dock though.. other than that i'd like to make the change.

Is this on your own WiFi? Have you tested yours and your brother's iPads on a different WiFi network? Process of elimination - it might be the WiFi access point itself rather than the iPad, I know we've had all sorts of problems with a Netgear wireless AP at work which needs rebooting every now and then as nothing can connect.

i have dlink routers also i tested on 3 wifi just after 5 min on sleep and wake it will need pass again

i have ipad 2 16gb wifi brought for wife it just works perfectly on any wifi

returned today third one i will try one and thats all

Hope I have no wifi issues on my 64gb 3G being delivered today

How long should I charge it for fresh out the box ?

The wifi issues are only on the wifi-only (ie non-3G) versions of the latest ipad... it's something Apple have recognised as a fault.

Not according to this chap

my brother has 3g model and here is the same

for example if iphone 4s has 3 signal bar ipad only 1

also everytime it needs password to enter after sleep to connect WiFi

i think i will just return this one too i fed up already

Anyone know what courier apple currently use? As with my iPad 2 it was ups but just got home and there's a ukmail note through the door missed them by 10 minutes!

EDIT: Answered my own question yep apple use UKMail now great wont be here tomorrow for redelivery so will probably not be able to get it until the weekend as their nearest branch is 60 miles away!!!

Do you have to charge it from new out the box for a long period of time ?
Mine came with a near full battery, I used it for a few days and then let the battery die. Then I left it on charge for like 24 hours or something silly.
They recommend to do a full charge once a month or two.

Is watching movies on the iPad a good experience? I'm coming from a Transformer prime which has black bars on sone content, although im guessing it will be an even greater amount of bars on the iPad. Can anyone advise?

Wasn't going to upgrade from my ipad1 but picked up a iPad 3 today pretty good improvement and it's managing the random image threads without crashing!

Screens not too bad either :)

Actually that might not be 2.35:1, it was just a trailer screengrab.
