*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

32 seems the minimum to me. Followed OcUK advice and I am very glad I did. The space quickly fills up with just a few apps and videos.

Depends what you mean by 'few'? You will get a lot of apps on a 16gb iPad. Music is stored on my iPod and video's I can never really see my putting on the thing as I don't commute anywhere where I could watch them, when I venture on hols I may miss the extra storage but films etc are going to be tops 400mb really.

Picked up a new iPad last week, compared to our original model I'm not as impressed with the retina screen as I was when comparing an iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 4, the difference doesn't seem as dramatic and I'm not sure I would recommend an upgrade based on the screen. Still nice though, but no dealbreaker.

However it's great to have a faster processor and camera now, although not sure just how much better these 2 things are compared to iPad 2?

The camera is a lot better, the speed is about the same.

Not putting any music or videos on it, will stream them.

Even when your on holiday somewhere sat on a plane?

I found my iPad 32gb to be the perfect size and now find my old iPhone 3G 8gb to have hardly any free space in comparison. :(

Its down to personal preferance at the end of the day, eg, on my ipad I've got 16+ game apps (the largest takes up 1gb :o ), got all the pages/numbers/keynote apps and also garageband etc. As well as over smaller apps for things like news/media/sky go and so on.

As well as holding 10gb of tunes, a couple of movies and several episodes of top gear. My iPad is now full to the brim with little space spare so now I have to delete apps/movies or rearrange what movies etc I want on there.

A few quick questions:

2) Is there any way to natively play back 720p mkv files (I am sure people know what sort I mean) on the iPad. If so, which App? I recall when iPads first came out 3rd party players could only use software acceleration which meant playback was slow. Can they now use the GPU for acceleration, or are the CPUs fast enough for software playback to be flawless? If not, is there a quick way to convert these files to iPad friendly files? I don't want to re-encode files, but for PS3 you can "remux" files so it changes the container from MKV to mp4, which takes minutes compared to hours for an actual recode to a Native apple format.

Based on my testing it will play decent bit rate 720p with no h/w acceleration, so mkv's are fine. I use AVPlayerHD.

However 1080p mkv content is a no-go. You will need to remux to mp4/m4v which will allow h/w acceleration; my 1080p content is super smooth then.

Still didnt work. I was picking up the BTopenzone.

Must have to do something else.

Maybe just slow, might need 3g to get it going better.
You disabled the Wi-FI and then tried the 3G right? Well it should connect to Edge or whatever still surely, the only time I've had errors on my iPhone with GiffGaff is 1) When the settings were wrong 2) When GiffGaff has been having problems. and I guess 3) when there isn't any credit or goodybag on the account.

Just got the new iPad which is my first ever apple purchase. Am really liking it so far but one thing is annoying me in Safari. When you click on an address in the bar at the top the cursor will just go inbetween the character where you pointed. How do you get it to the highlight the whole thing so you can simply delete it and type a new address in?

Bought my second iPad and it arrived yesterday :)
Wifi one is in hands of my other half, and I have 4G one :)
Waiting for sim to be delivered.

Bought it second hand - 2 weeks old, apple care fr extra year,as new,no scratches, leather smart case, for £480. Find it good deal and couldnt miss it :)

Ordered a 32GB on Sunday, delivery date was estimated as 2 weeks. Got an email last night saying it had been despatched and to expect it today!

Not sure how accurate that is but if it does indeed turn up today, i'll be very impressed with that turn around.
