Legend of Grimrock - Dungeon Master Fan's !

Some character creation tips here from what I've gleaned. No major spoilers, but I'll stick the tag on.

Unlike other RPGs I don't see that you need a thief... you don't need to pick locks etc as far as I can see. However...
A mage seems to be difficult to run more than one because of the amount of clicking in combat. While a thief can attack with melee from the back row.
Because of that I think 2 front row fighters, a mage and a thief is the right combination.
I think one minotaur is the right amount too, because while I like the idea of humans getting more skillpoints, I also notice that minos get a bonus for having a skull. I assume that means there will be a number of skulls in the game. It makes sense to have a character that can use them, while it doesn't make sense to have two minotaurs because if they really are balanced against humans for a front row fighter then that'll also be balanced with skulls taken into account.

As for skill advances, I'm going for armour for my front row guys rather than damage, because there's damage coming from all 4 characters and my back row guys can't take a beating.

I'm going for generic skills rather than specific weapon/magic type. I suspect there will be one powerful sword and one powerful mace later on, I don't expect the two most powerful weapons will both be the same skill type. I also suspect there will be a goto spell, and I don't know what it relies on..

So I think initially I'll be doing armour/armour/assassination/spellcraft on my skills.

I'm downloading on Steam now and I'm going to start a new party with what I've said in mind.

Some spoilers on secrets I've found so far. I'd love to know the ones you've found!
In the very first room there's a pair of boots and a throwing star. Look for a push button rock. At the end of level one there's two push button rocks which reveal a staff. On level 2 where it says prison to the right and rest to the left, put a torch in the holder.

Edit : Save games from the manual install appear if you uninstall and then install the Steam version.

Hmm...Steam won't let me play this.

In my library I have "Legend of Grimrock" pre-order and it is greyed out. If I go to the store page it says I own the game. If I click "play now" nothing happens.

EDIT : Seems to be a Steam issue. I restarted my Steam client and no luck. I restarted a second time and now it is downloading.

Wow, this does feel quite like DM!

The old fingers still have what it takes for dancing around the enemies it seems, so yay for that! That brings back some memories.

But, then... the levelling system... so many options, so few points and so little knowledge! I am paralysed with indecision! What type of spells will I need? What weapons will I find?

I can't handle this kind of stress! I just want a screamer room so I can train all my characters carefully in what I need! :)

Just played for 25 mins on normal and old skool(no maps),i think its quite good, best Dungeon Master remake ever,im impressed so far, even the first puzzles are out of DM and Blue Gem and Snail slice aka Screamer Slice or Worm rounds.

Woulda been nice to have a Hall of Champions instead of picking your own and the option to resurrect or reincarnate each champion which affects gameplay and char building but still, its good enough.

I dont know how the Magic will be but it looks good from what i can gather from greyed out stats.

How many of you missed the secret at the start of the game? :p:p

If you hold the right mouse button and swing about you can see it uses a proper 3D engine rather than what DM used, I'm guessing that's why it's demanding on graphics cards.

I've hit the third floor and I think I'm going to stop for the evening. I'm on my third party... 1st was the ones it comes with, 2nd was my first attempt and now I think I've made a party that I haven't yet made any skill mistakes with.
