Benefits cheats - do you know any?

So you're basically saying because other people are selfish, I will be too.

You should try it mate. Because while you're playing good citizen all your life, other people will reap the benefits, and sooner or later, probably when you're retired and living off a pension, you'll be wishing that you would have looked after number one that little bit more when you had the chance.

Everyone who pays taxes. That's what they are for - to redistribute income, as I said.

But I think (if I've followed the thread correctly) these are people that are too ill to work. Changes to disability living allowance has meant people that have been classified as too sick to work are now classified as able and have been given 12months to find work, after that all money is stopped. And these are genuine casses.
Fibromyalgia (many poeple see this as the "new bad back or depression") is the area I've been reading most of my stories about. Some of these people can't dress themselves due to the pain, but according to some pleb out there is fit enough to work.

I'd sort of agree. If I knew they were only doing it for beer money and self indulgance I would report. But if they were desperate for the cash and in general despair then I would most likely turn the other way to their fraud claim.

If they were desperate there's a fair chance the benefits they're receiving, they're getting legally.

I'll take my chances not being a benefit thief thanks.

There will always be cases of people who are incorrectly assessed as fit for work when they are not, and vice versa. All you can do is try and minimise the incorrect assessments. The government's view (and the people who voted for them!) was that too many people were being incorrectly diagnosed as unfit to work, hence they made the tests harder. All the money is not "stopped" as those people who lose disability benefit will still get some benefit. It's a very difficult issue to get right.

Thing is they have taken it to the other extreme and it doesn't help that these companies are paid per patient they see. If they make a decision and the patient appeals for an other diagnosis then that's twice the payment for the company. The doctor's and nurses, from the stories but who say's they are true, appear to be encouraged to fail the patiends for benefits for this reason alone.
I'd love to see some financial figures of the various costs since the company (I can't remember the name) have started opperating and if it actually saved any money.

I know of some yes but if someone wants to go out and find cash in hand work aswell as claim then fair enough in my book.

I don't like people who just sit around with no work ethic at all.

This is an interesting point.

While not a family member I do know someone who claimed JSA/housing/council tax benefit for a short time while working. But they actually employ a number of people in a small buisness. They could not afford to pay themselves and needed some kind of tide over during this period. The last thing they wanted to do was fire people during these hard times.

Did not grass on them because in the grand scheme of things, it was noble, and not for self indulgance.

Being a rat is one of the worst things you can be. Just like you wouldn't turn your mum in if she murdered someone.

I would turn my own mother in if I had the chance.

It's be me getting one back on the cow :D

Can't blame him really. I probably would as well. It's supposedly awful and shameful if someone claims benefits of £100 a week or so, but it's perfectly OK for people like Lewis Hamilton to bugger off to Switzerland to avoid paying tax.

Does'nt compute.

There's a difference. Lewis is exploiting a loophole. Questionable, yes. Illegal, no.

Benefit cheats are breaking the law. They are claiming benefits which they are not entitled to. It's like going to a tescos self checkout and saying you bought cheap tesco value goods from the bakery when infact you've bough the tesco finest ones. You are stealing if you are doing it on purpose. The machine/system knows nothing of your crime and won't until the employee cayches you. That's pretty much what's happening here.

OP, do your duty to the taxpayer and snitch on them. £30k is a liveable wage. If they were on £10k and struggling on scraps, I would turn a blind eye, but this is unacceptable.

You misunderstand. The action of loosing all income (as far as I have understood it) effects all genuine cases not misdiagnosed ones on the ESA contribution). The benefit that they previously received (incapacity) which is now called ESA contribution stops after 12months. If you are married your partner is expected to support you.
I may of course be wrong and so will await correction if need be?

That's also how I believe it works.
