Liverpool Sack Comolli

well, although most footballer's are a bit thick. i'm sure even carroll can come up with the connection here ''hang on, they''ve just sacked the bloke whose job it was to identify signings, one of which was me ......... i scored on tuesday too''

sorry I dont buy that - they have a valuable contract in their pocket, the initial paperwork is a long distant memory :)

You got the wrong man Liverpool!

But hey keep holding up Kenny as king and finishing down the table :D I can understand the fans wanting to stay behind but blind faith from the club is just wrong, luckily we had Cashley who is completely ruthless to get rid of Keegan which was a great thing for us.

First time I'v seen a Newcastle fan say something positive about Cashley ;)

Does he have any affect on current 1st team squad? (no doubt he chooses / helps choose future players etc)

Not sure it will make that much difference to Sat imo (sure if it was Kenny or a coach , you would have a valid point)

Because now papers will be speculating on is Kenny happy with the players he has, is Kenny getting sacked and now players who were signed by him are questioning their future in the summer as the man who helped bring them in has been sacked.

There was zero reason to do this before the cup game.

I can think of a few reasons...

What are they? (Unless it is something to do with semi-finals I'm not quite sure why)

Rumours of David Dein to replace Ian Ayre as Chief Exec with Ayre to return to Commercial Director.

I do like Ian Ayre but the chance to snap up David Dein would be a fantastic coup.

from what i've seen before, dein/wenger was the only example i could think of in the prem that had worked as the DoF role that Comolli had/manager should.

Well some one had to go. But I am surprised they didnt just wait until the end of the season or until at least after the weekend.

An as for Kenny said he picked the players well IMO he might of picked some of them but has to go public and say he picked all of them otherwise the players will wonder if they are really wanted at the club.

But I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't pick them all & is now stuck with people he don't want. In a similar case like when Rick Parry got Robbie Keane and Rafa didn't really want him.

Just to clear 1 thing up: all of #LFC's signings were jointly approved apart from (definitely) Adam and (reportedly) Downing. They were KD.
From Rory Smith on Twitter.

You'd have to think he bought them if he keeps bloody playing them.

I can confirm that Liverpool's Head of Sports Medicine & Science Peter Brukner has also left the club - he was a Purslow appointment

Maybe we can get that Chelsea doctor.

Little bit suprised as to the timing.

Obviously heads were going to roll in some form or another given the s/storm thats surrounded all things club/player releated this season. One would have thought though this would undermine the confidence of certain players, even though there's mutural statements being played out to the media.

The entire social spectrum will be rife with negative vibes reguardless, which the players won't be oblivious to.

Personaly i think the manager will walk in the summer anyway, his own person choice. Either that or the owners might force the issue at the seasons end anyway, kenny just can't do the press/interviews...it realy hasn't looked good this season, it's gone beyond charm.

Following the announcement that Damien Comolli has left the club, Liverpoolfc.tv spoke to the Reds chairman Tom Werner.

Tom, the news this morning that Damien Comolli is leaving the club will have come as a surprise to many fans. Can you explain why the decision was taken?

I think it's fair to say no supporter would be delighted with the results we've achieved this year. We feel we are a club that needs to be perceived as the strongest club in football and we want to get there. Frankly, we make these decisions with a great deal of care because it's our track record in Boston to give people authority and we've had great success with our manager, who was there for eight years, and our general manager, so we prefer stability. But when it's time to act, we need to act. We're coming close to the end of the season and the transfer window for the summer, and we felt it was important to make this change expeditiously.

In light of Damien's departure, do you still think there is a need for a director of football at this club?

We're still confident the structure we've discussed is the right structure. That doesn't mean we won't look at tweaking it, but we feel a collective group of people making football decisions is healthy. The debate is healthy. Part of the reason we made this decision now is because we want to start the process of finding an excellent replacement.

Do you have a candidate in mind for the role?

We don't have any specific candidates in mind. Part of the reason we made this decision yesterday was to be in the best possible position to move forward as quickly as possible.

Is Damien's departure a reflection that the ownership group were unhappy with the return on player investment?

I would say we certainly have the resources to compete with anybody in football. I wouldn't want to get specific about any particular decision that's been made. We feel there is enough talent on the pitch to win and, as I said, we've been dissatisfied, as most supporters have been, with the results so far. But we're also talking about the future - we have a strategy we need implemented and we felt Damien was probably not the right person to implement that strategy.

Does Damien Comolli's departure have any impact upon Kenny Dalglish's position as manager?

Absolutely not. We've got great confidence in Kenny. We feel the team is going to make strides in the future and he enjoys our full support.

Do you envisage any other changes in the senior management of the club?

We do not. It's a good question. We believe the senior management is very strong, Ian Ayre is an outstanding managing director. His charge is to raise revenue so that we can put the resources into strengthening our football club. We've got great confidence in the other people in football operations, and so the answer is there will be no future changes of significance.

In terms of transfer activity this summer, will Damien's departure affect plans that are already underway?

We've had a strategy that we have agreed on. There was some disconnect on the implementation of that. That strategy is a strong one and it will continue. We need to build a strong system under the first team. We're hard at work identifying transfer targets and we will be better next year.

Finally, as chairman of Liverpool Football Club, do you have a message for the supporters ahead of the very important game on Saturday?

We're all excited about this match. We certainly feel the team is healthy and the team is committed. We just attended a practice where they are excited about returning to Wembley. There's only one team in England that has the possibility of winning this cup and the Carling Cup, and I think our supporters around the world should feel very confident.

Kenny staying then unless he decides to walk.

How they can come out and say the transfers were decent, its just the results that are the problem, so Comolli goes but they have great confidence in Kenny.... lol. So Comolli is in charge of training/team picking/motivation is he?

Seemingly more and more looks like Kenny mostly picked targets, Comolli agreed or not then went out and got them. Good prices, not really but for the players they went for I don't think they paid more than anyone else would have, they simply went after stupid targets, IE English youngsters who everyone MASSIVELY overpays for, English older players who randomly got heavily rated for a season for no reason, etc, etc.

Then a couple of those sound like they were essentially forced through by Dalglish, and have been two of the worst..... seriously how does Comolli get fired and Kenny stays?

Considering the interview is such a complete pile of horse poop, its coming across to me like, the fans want a change, demand a change and the squad needs a psychological change, but the owners know full well firing Kenny will go down insanely and stupidly badly with the vast majority of the fans, so they've decided to make Comolli the fall guy to an extent and semi back Kenny.

The only way the fans won't go ballistic is if Kenny walks, which I think will happen but in the meantime I expect every excuse out the book as to why its not Kenny's fault.
