Anyone had any experience with a Toyota iQ, looking at one local tomorrow to see how it fits around me etc, looking to possibly getting one soon, what are you thoughts etc on it. Economy is my main priority.

Not driven an IQ but I've driven 2 Aygo and if it's worse than the Aygo then don't go near it and the Aygo is supposed to be the next "class" up.

How many mpg do you consider to be economical anyway?

I think the iQ is actuall priced even higher than the yaris, as it's more of a smart for two competior, though I've not driven one, it seemed a lot nicer inside than the older Yaris we used to have.

My understanding of them is that they're there to be cool and tiny, but there are plenty of cars out there you could get for the money that are better and still 'economical'.

Depends on what the OP wants out of a car, really, and how much they want to spend! I'm assuming 6k plus.

Conversely I think the aygo/c1/107 are cracking little cars, cheap (from Peugeot or Citroen) basic and honest. The iq is more expensive and tries to tap into the mini market. Cleverly packaged but you pay what is imo too much of a premium for it, if you like them you like them though cant do any harm taking it for a drive

Billy bargain when you compare it to the Aston Martin Cygnet :p

I actually drove back from football behind one a couple weeks ago, couldn't believe people around here actually bought the things.

That's because there are loads of people around who will do similar to what my friend has done, and drop nearly £9,000 (after finance) into one of these cars with 3,000 miles on, so that he can get "great full efficiency" on his <100 mile a week drive.

I still don't know what possessed him to do so, the car has nothing! Not even remote locking, nor electric windows!

Hey guys, giving light back to this thread.

Just a quick question, I went looking at an iQ today and seems a good deal. It is an 09 with 17k miles on the clock, one previous lady owner.

They said all that needs done for the MOT was new pads which they would do. And also a 6 month warranty but thats it.

Am I looking at a good buy (test drive it soon) or does it sound a bit dodgy?

I think you'll get a better deal with a similar age/mileage Aygo/C1/107 on that budget and probably better resale value later on. MPG will be identical, as is the tax.

Had my iQ for nearly three years now (almost time to give it back). Love the build quality, love the space in side (in the front), love the flat folding rear seats for the luggage space, love the styling. Love the zero rate tax, love the MPG. There's not a lot I don't like really!

I's a far nicer place to be and a far nicer drive than an Aygo/etc. In fact I'd say it's far nicer than a Yaris too, which I've been lumbered with a couple of times as a loaner.

Make sure you get the '2' spec and don't bother with the 1.3 since you'll have to pay road tax and put more petrol in it :)

Feel free to PM me any specific questions.

You can buy a top spec model Aygo for that, and it would be newer with a good amount of warranty left on it.

They are fun, incredibly nippy and can return a realistic circa 60mpg.

More than this, they are far more practical than the IQ, with the 4 door Aygo being an exceptional carrier of four for the price. You won't get anyone in the back of the IQ unless they are children.

Different cars for different markets though - similar size but different concepts. If the OP wants the IQ i can't see the Aygo trio being an alternative

I don't see them being different markets, even if Toyota wants you to think that.

Saying that, I do not see the Aygo as a true Toyota either, as realistically is part of the Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech group.

I do, however, see the Aygo as a viable alternative to the overpriced IQ. Including and especially if it's the 1.0l engine the OP is looking for.
