The whole joke of it is, football HAS to progress to video replays eventually, sooner rather than later, which will instantly make every single penny spent on goal line tech worthless, and that is of course assuming goal line tech works which afaik no one has confirmed nor tested it in all conditions. Unlike Tennis where Hawkeye has realistically a good overview of the entire area and no chance of a dozen players all over the goal line confusing things(though if its done with a radio signal from the ball passing a line, maybe that won't matter).
We KNOW video replay works, we've had it for years, EVERYONE at home can see almost every decision almost instantly and know if its right or wrong. This tech needs to basically go from sending the picture from the home screen to coming up with simple rules that allow the ref to see replays and to keep the game flowing. Loads of other sports manage this, give both managers 2 chances to question a decision, replay is checked, decision is given, if the decision gets overturned they get their challenge back, if not, they lose it. It works in just about every sport as it can't effectively be used to waste time, and video replay will end up with the right decision 99.9% of the time.
There will always be times video replays aren't completely clear, but going from what is at the moment horrendously poor accuracy over huge season defining decisions, to 99% accurate, is more than enough.
Goal line tech is a joke, and people don't seem to realise that Fifa are distracting everyone from an almost infallable system over video replay, with some lame goal line tech. How many decisions would that have changed this season in the FA cup and the league, 3 maybe? Video replay would have seen dozens of players correctly red carded, dozen's of incorrectly awarded penalties not given, hundreds of goals allowed or disallowed correctly.....
but people are now thinking goal line tech is great because it might change 3-4 decision a season? Its utterly laughable how easy it is to distract people.
Personally I've always thought the video replays could be shown on the stadium screen as opposed to ref having to run over to see it, people talk about incensing the crowd but, thats rubbish. Spurs fans were up in arms, correctly over the decision, chelsea fans were happy, if everyone saw point blank it wasn't a goal, Spurs fans would be fine, and Chelsea fans wouldn't suddenly go mental, they'd simply see it was a goal.
Likewise a player gets sent off and the home fans are going mental, but a video replay could show.... that it was the correct decision it would calm the fans down. Incorrect decisions wind up fans FAR more than correct ones even if they are against your team. I say that as it would then even save time of the ref having to go over and see a screen, also all the fans could as suggested see the correct decision, and the players, there would be less complaining/bad feeling all around the stadium, on and off the pitch.
