Legend of Grimrock - Dungeon Master Fan's !

Well I'm down on level 9 now, and at this stage I really think they mucked up the character system. I have a pure fire mage that's absolutely useless in half the fights, I'm dropping dozens of cool weapons and armour because I don't have the requirements, and generally feeling punished for splitting skills rather than picking one and maxing it.

Still enjoying the game immensely, but I keep getting this little voice saying "If this were Dungeon Master you'd be able to..." when I come up against a silly level related restriction.

Even the magic system has had all the fun taken out of it - there's no point trying to guess spell combinations because you can't cast them unless you have enough points in the that spell school.

Hopefully once the modders get their hands on it we'll see a decent DM system in place.

After reading many of the comments in this thread I've in the mood for a bit of dungeon crawling so I'm downloading it now :)

That explains why I prefer Eye of the Beholder. As the game was based on a comprehensive rule system and background lore from AD&D that was transferred to a computer game. While Grimrock has required Almost Human to create everything from scratch, while not infringing on any copyrights.

Grimrock is still a quality game though that I'm glad I bought.

The Legend of Grimrock Website announces the release of a new patch to update Almost Human's dungeon crawler to version 1.1.4. The patch is save-game compatible with previous versions, and here's how it is being distributed: "We have pushed the patch to Steam, GOG and our own store and it should be available once the distributors have done their magic, hopefully within 24 hours. Steam users will get the patch automatically, and if you bought the game from GOG or from us you can download the patched version of the game using the same way you obtained the original copy. But hold on a bit, it will take some time before the build gets updated on the servers." Here's the change list: Continue here to read the full story.

Those ice raptors in the temple are giving me nightmares :( Too many of them and they just keep respawning and surrounding you.

Yeah, they were a pain. If I remember right there's a doorway you can open and close with a 2x2 room on the other side. Lure one in, close the door before the others arrive and kill it. If you do that a few times the numbers seem to thin out a bit, I think they take a while to respawn. Thin them out and then make a run for it.

I'll give that a go. I seem to have killed loads of them, but as soon as I venture further in I get surrounded and overwhelmed :(

The area a bit further on with the fire demons has me right annoyed - again, one member of the party is just baggage cos I had the temerity to go fire mage.

Fire Mage is pretty decent dmg, mana was the biggest issue. Fire is made even better with the nice items you can get. Gave mine a little ice which was what I used against fire resist mobs.

Which items buff fire? I've only found a staff which buffs Earth, which still seems pretty rubbish.

It's decent against everything except the fire demons, it doesn't do any damage at all against them. It's a bit annoying to have a party member who's completely useless for the duration of a fight. Sticking a legion spear in their hands so they can attack from the back doesn't quite cut it :)

Well, at least they can cast fire shield! :D
