HEY GIBBO...GTX 690 when is it due?

If they invent some way to disperse the heat effectively from two GPUs on a single PCB I'm all ears.

That would effectively need a single PCB that is double thickness and has top and bottom cooling that is identical.

You're right though, I've yet to see one that disperses the heat evenly and you always end up with one hot core.

Which kind of defeats the purpose, given actual SLI is pretty much the same and costs loads less and is usually faster as the cores are far more beefy.

My step up program wont allow me to go to a 4GB 680 and I have 60 days left on the step up...Maybe a 690 will be for me. Price will define that though.

no two 680s will cost you a fortune, far more than a GTX 690, well at least i hope so .... flipping heck

two 680s = 1200 quid or 1100 quid...... uuum NO

i wasn't around then

IIRC you could actually pick up a pair of 580s for ever so slightly less depending where you looked.

Dual GPU cards would actually catch on if they were fairly priced.

They're not, though. Sure, dual GPUs costs double the component cost, but usually from that moment on everything else is one part and not two. One fan on most of them, one PCB etc.

Mind you, I guess the fact that they are produced in far smaller numbers comes at a cost, but I have never and will never buy one at launch. I usually buy them a couple of years later for £40 (like I did with my 3870x2) and then play with them.

One of my 295s was free, the other my friend bagged on EVGA B stock in the USA for $99 shipped :D so about £65 all told.

Was fun playing with them. Rubbish, though.

two 580s might be ok as well, but you're a wee bit low in VRAM to be future proof, mind you the 3GB version is dropping in price as well..

two 580s will kick arse on 1080p, plus have good drivers... the 7950 is a bit hit and miss in crossfire, i just read about it on Hexus, it's total **** on Crysis 2... not sure why

SLI improved x1000 when EVGA took it upon themselves to make sure it was updated and working properly.

That's what AMD need tbh. One of their add in partners to acually do something worthwhile.

GTX 580 msi.....I bought 2 of those on thursday,got them on friday...overclockers are great,but....
DO NOT buy 2 of them for SLI,unless your board support 3 way SLI,and your PC case is designed for 3 way SLI.the cards, one next to another wont work longer than 10-15 min.after that they overheat(especialy the first slot card)and they restart the system.i had to get rid of my beloved Antec P182 because of the stupid M****.and the problems dosent stop there...oh no.i bought new case but the the 3 way SLI bridge wont fit completely into the first card, cos MSI,the idiots have decided to put a stupid metal plate before the conectors that...im not even sure what that plate supports.
So if you want 2 of those in SLI in your system you should make sure that:
-your board support 3 way SLI so they can be in slots 1 and 3(makes no diference in preformance atleast for me)
-your PC case is designed for 3 way SLI
-get an extra long and flexible SLI bridge
After all that, youll be little bit impresed, but not a lot

you what !!!!! am i ok

Wrong. 680's cost £420 when the stock shortages settle down. More around £400.

it depends which ones you look at, the after market ones dont cost that do they... try 550 to 600 which equals 1200 quid

compare this silly price to an after market 7950 and you can have two for 640 quid, which is not far off half price, it's a no brainer, but unfortunately it's not as easy as this, because in some games the 7950 crossfire falls flat on its face, its framerates drop off; no idea why, it was in that Hexus saphire 7950 review.

I've still got loads of research to do, because the 580 in SLI is interesting as well

Why are you comparing non-reference stock shortage 4GB 680's to presumably (?) reference 2GB per GPU 690's? Not a like for like comparison at all.

There isn't likely to be a 690 8GB IMO. We'll see but I'd be very surprised. And if there is then it'll be about 105-110% the cost of two 4GB 680's. It's the way it goes...

There is a very effective way of cooling it. Dual loop watercooling with one GPU in each loop :D

I have to say, you are by far the most intelligent 1yr old I've met!

supossedly 5th may if you go by nvidia facebook page..we will have to see :D

current cards on my ingredients list are gtx690 and galaxy hall of fame :D with a hint of evga F.T.W 680 :D

roll on 5th may lets get this rumour stripped and revealed so we can go forward.... :D

don't forget the zotac 1.4ghz oc thats pretty much in line with the HOF and FTW

dont forget we've the 7990 some time after, there is nothing online about this card... only old rumours, AMD are extremely quiet.... their card must be finished by now and thus it's too late to upgrade it...

mind you, the rough specs of the GTX 690 have been around for ages..as a guide for AMD.

they'll both be clones of each other, but with the AMD having more Vram... price, that's all that counts !

source?

So have the specs for the 7990...

what?! What does the VRAM have to do with GPU power?

A reference 680 when there is no shortages will be approx £399 Inc. Vat, but shortages shall continue for next 2-3 months.

The 690 will be a reference only card as such one can guesstimate it's retail price to be in the region of £699-£799 and again supply shall be very tight.

However I am neither confirming or denying this is what the 5th of May is about. :p
