#1 FPS GAME

Goldeneye 007 probably gave me the most enjoyment, though I wouldn't say objectively that it is the best FPS. Tough choice but I'd probably have to go with Half-Life 2, if not the original Half-Life.

Rise of the Triads ? unique split rockets and skulls flying at your face

Doom 2 obviously, Quake turned it stupid how people flew around

Unreal Tourney

Soldier of Fortune

Surprisingly good on console too

Also Bad company 1 was better then the rest of the series I reckon especially how the tanks could destroy so much land they could bury themselves for defence (entrench)

The best CS was in beta - started going wrong when it was retail and they tuned it for nooby play

Half Life.

Yes, the game has aged graphically but the point being, for its time, no other game since has offered the same innovations involving gameplay mechanics and story telling and pacing remotely comparable with the same impact Half Life had in its time.

No other FPS has given me the same feeling when firing it up, from the opening scenes, you are hooked and in the palm of their (Valves) hands.

Got to agree with this, on PC anyway.

Quake 3. Got my first pc in 1999/2000 and it must have came out around about then. Played online for the first time and couldn't believe I was playing against other people. Loved the quick gameplay as well as the online experience.

SiN for me, it was better than Half Life once the bugs were ironed out. So many cool features and the enviroment interaction was unrivaled back in 1998.

I thought the original Operation Flashpoint was amazing - so unforgiving, one or two hits and you're dead - one savepoint per level from memory which meant you had to risk going further and further before saving. Also the variability in completing your mission - remember one mission where you have to escape from a forest - spent ages trying to dodge enemies through trees - then tried something different where I sprinted out of the forest to a road, saw a jeep coming towards me, sniped the driver and got in the jeep and drove away to safety!

Also fond memories of Soldier of Fortune II - I think it my the first game I played were flash bangs and smoke grenades were meaningful, had stealth elements and "on rails" shooter levels.

Good shout that. The map editor was one of the first for a game like that. Great game.

For me Doom would be up there along with BF2, Farcry and Aliens vs Predator original 1999 version, first game i played that made me nearly jump out of my seat.

Quake, Quake 3 (RA3/Clan Arena). Still play sp Quake now. Don't mind playing a bit of the original DooM series either (Tricks and Traps, w00t).

1) C&C Renegade, it might not of been in depth or beautiful but online it was an amazingly fun game.
2) Call of duty 2
3) Soldier of fortune
4) battlefield 2

All for online game play.
