Spils, I'm fairly sure the physics and framerate aren't linked in any way, the physics iirc runs at 360Hz, or attempts to but dependent on CPU power.
The low framerate just means that you miss or get delayed information about what the car is doing, which is what leads to the slides and mistakes.
