What film did you watch last night?

Old movies on blurays

k-19 the Widowmaker - 6/10 - never seen this movie before and once you get passed the poor russian accents the movie is actually kind of gripping and it tells a very interesting story. This movie was apparently a major flop at the box office costing 100 mil and not even making half that, i think the name of the movie is terrible and did not help.
Air Force One - 6/10 - seen the movie before years ago and the movie still has a gripping story and production is up to todays standards
Men in Black 2 - 6/10 - no where near as good as the first one, but still entertaining and the bluray is done well, the movie seems very short though.

Battleship - 7/10 - very well implemented alien movie with a plausible story. A bit of cheese but no where as bad as battle la, at least the cheese in the movie tries to be funny and knows that it is. story 6/10 aliens 8/10 production 10/10

Watched Salmon Fishing in the Yewen last Friday.

Few random plot holes, but it was good, thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though it had it's quirky love story thing going on it was just really nice and Ewan McGregor is really good, make it's quite funny at times.

7-8/10

  7/10??

I agree in one respect: the film's only saving grace is that it doesn't take itself seriously.

The idea that humans found a planet and sent a signal and then this brought aliens to the planet, plausible. The idea that when they get here they want to send a message back to their planet, plausible. Aliens themselves, their technology, seems plausible enough.

Only thing that didn't seem very plausible in terms of the aliens was that their communication ship crashed, they are so advanced that they travel through space but they can't avoid a satellite, didn't seem plausible.

Tired to watch Transformers 3 last night

Was okay for the first 40 minutes but then after an hour and a half I realised I still had another hour to go I couldn't stomach it anymore and turned it off. Why are these films so long? Anyway like I say I liked the start with the whole man on the moon being a cover up and Megan Fox's replacement is pretty hot but after that I got bored. I'll be giving anymore of these a miss completely

Super 8, really enjoyed it, was a bit dissapointed in the sound to begin with as it all sounded a bit tinny but maybe it was just me because when the bus attack scene came on... holy hell, that was quite impressive.

8/10.

Chronicle - I'm glad I stuck with it.

It's one of those films where the camera is held by one of the actors a lot of the time but it's about 3 lads who develop super powers.

Inception, just go around to watching it, still a bit underwhelmed, I like the concept but the film never really caught my full attention, found it a bit boring tbh...

I can appreciate the idea and some scenes, but I can only rate it 7/10.

Another one of these films ( like Avatar ( It's gone from the top 250 on imdb now but iirc when it was just out it was rated silly high) or The Dark Knight) which doesn't have a place in my personal top 25...

Also recently watched Lotr, all 3 in one go, the extended editions... First one was boring imho, 2nd one was best bar a few boring scenes, 3rd one was very good too, so against mainstream, I thought the 2nd was best, followed by the third, and the first was boring imo.

Only got one film left from the imdb top 25, Godfather part 2, I've seen bits and pieces but not the whole film.
Then it's on to imdb 25-50 :). Seen about half of them atm.

Chronicle!

OMG OMG OMG. I love this move!!!

I'd slaughter 1000 babies if it meant I could have those telekinetic powers. Those guys were living my dream. Andrew shouldn't have been such a douche, but I did feel for him :(

Glad I'm not the only one who thought Inception was a bit meh. ;)

Definitely not as good as it was hyped up to be.

Agreed, but the last 15 minutes went off the boil something chronic.

I'll maybe agree with this, I don't think the last ~minutes detracted too much from my enjoyment.

I Saw the Devil (2010)

Stunning South Korean crime drama/thriller.
Featuring lead actors Min-sik Choi (Oldboy) and Byung-hun Lee ( A Bittersweet Life (2005) another MUST see South Korean masterpiece)
One of the best if not the best films I've seen this year, highly recommended!

8/10

I adore this film, I've mentioned it in the thread before and in other threads. It's brilliant, the performances especially Min-Sik Choi are amazing. Really gritty and disturbing at times.

+1

Also just saw Zombieland - Really liked it, great zombie movie, funny, gory etc. etc.

8/10 as it could do with more gore in some scenes for me :p

I also enjoyed this quite a lot, thought it was one of the better zombie film cash ins :)

I certainly agree with the Inception was over rated, I thought it was trying too hard to be the new Matrix to be honest. I don't think this makes it a bad film, it's still very good with some really top draw performances.

I also, disagree about the Lord of the Rings :p I adore and love the first, the second wasn't quite as good (still brilliant) and the third was outstanding, I think all three are marvellous and masterpieces (not without fault), but I'm a huge fan of the books so I had a very critical eye of the films. One of the best trilogys of films ever made :)

I guess It's because I don't like the jolly fantasy type of world, and I was familiar with the LOTR world and races and stuff from pc games ( battle for middle earth 1 and 2) so it made 0.0 impact on me, I found Frodo's quest and the scenes with him, the other hobbit, and Sméagol / Gollum boring.

I liked 2 and 3 most for the battles haha :).

I guess It's just because I don't like the whole Fantasy genre ( although I love Game of Thrones, oddly).

I definitely appreciate the film for what it is, it's just not my type of film.

I liked Matrix when I was small but tbh these days the whole concept sounds ''meh'' to me. I'd need to watch it again though to give my judgement, it's been at least 10 years...
