It's Diablo.

It's a solo version of wow so I fail to understand why people are shocked/annoyed/bored with the continual farm mechanic?? Surely you knew what you were letting yourself in for? :p

Currently I am failing to see the point of continuing to play. They haven't simply made Act 2 Inferno more difficult, they've just changed the numbers to ridiculous amounts. There's no real variation or step-up in AI or challenges, just...more numbers. For such a hyped up game, it's frankly disappointing.

The disparity between Act 1 and Act 2 is so massive that it goes beyond gearing. I have pretty decent gear, maybe I need more intelligence or resistances? Take a hit on DPS for more resistance? More VIT? I have 28k HP as a Demon Hunter and 31k Damage. I just can't survive. Killing mobs isn't the problem, but having to avoid every single attack, especially after they nerfed SS is not only very difficult, but it's very boring.

So what now? Farm Act 1 with the faint hope something slightly better might drop (which won't actually bridge the gap), farm for gold so I can buy legendaries and set items so I can actually get to the point where they might actually drop - if that's even how it works in Inferno and it's not still just rubbish random loot tables (which I still maintain works against the longevity of the game for pure frustration).

What now? Roll another character and just do everything again with different skills? How fun. By creating a very short game, recycling just about everything, randomising all the loot, tacking on extra difficulties instead of actually making a deeper longer game (yes I know it's part and parcel of the Diablo series, but that doesn't excuse the shoddy story, characters and length of the game), very little variation in boss fights and other challenges, trivialising boss fights by making them easier than elite mobs (why aren't these mob packs the leaders of Hell?), a frankly pathetic ending to the game, and generally poor service.

Now, I've plugged 60 hours into the game and I've enjoyed them simply for the pew pew and initially the excitement of loot drops etc but I'm kind of losing hope.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing, Blizz want you to bang your head in frustration at Act 2+ because its clear they havent worked out how they want it balanced yet, so they have just scaled everything way up to keep it artificially blocked. Maybe its so they can watch which builds can work in those conditions and tune them since they must be clearly broken.

I've set myself the challenge of succeeding regardless of this and have accepted the massive amounts of death and frustration that come with it. In certain dungeons in Act II Inferno I've had to train every elite pack into a corner of the dungeon so I can get through because they are simply unkillable (fast, burrowing, invunerable minions for example) and resetting the quest would put me back further.

You can see they have been tweaking things in the background. Elite packs now reset their hp after a certain amount of time so you cant just zerg them down. This changed whilst I was playing I'm sure of it.

Despite all this I've made it to Belial and have hit a dps wall which means I need to farm more gold to buy a weapon from further on in the progression than is available to me (as well as continuing to hunt for well rolled rare armor items). Stupid? Yes, very, but because the option exists and I want to beat it before it gets nerfed I will probably do it.

TL;DR - Accept death and frustration in Inferno Act II+ or play a different char/quit.

Finally spent enough time on the game to complete it on normal :D

13hours 40mins on demon hunter

Looking forward to nightmare mode :)

I was suffering with some frame rate dropping and screen tearing, although now I have all but eliminated the frame rate dropping by setting the Windows power option (Win 7) to "High performance" as opposed to "Balanced" and switched the PyshX setting of the Nvidia control panel to from "Auto" to run direct from the GPU, however it could have always been on that setting when running "Auto", also a Defrag  of all my drives and Disk Clean , made all the difference.

Enabling V-sync and reducing Background FPS to 59Hz or the native refresh rate of your monitor, smoothed out the tearing for me.

Nvidia Display driver 295.51.

Excellent game though, not played a Diablo before but currently have a L28 WD and L16 Barb.

Quick question, why does the WD have a melee weapon but uses a blow pipe? or am I missing something?

Yes. Yes you do.

Dual wielding? Good place to start? I recently made the switch from 1h + Shield to DW. DPS is much improved :)

kd

I am duel wielding.

My weapons currently have a lot of VIT and a fair bit of str.

339 DPS
+106 STR
+65 INT
+177 VIT

339 DPS
+103 STR
+101 DEX
+ 200 VIT

I can't find any weps better than these in the AH on my current 200k budget.

Should I lose some vit + str and get something with higher DPS?

It's not the farm mechanic itself, it's how poorly it's implemented. The whole game is a poor show and would fade very quickly if it weren't being propped up by the Blizzard and Diablo names.

Seems like the way to go for DH is to forget everything other than damage increasing. That means goodbye to Vit, resistances, life on hit, etc and just focus on Dex, +Discipline, +attack speed, etc - which makes sense if I'm going to be one shotted past act 1. I do have concerns as to how much it'll affect my viability at farming act 1, although with enough damage I suppose it won't matter too much.

The story in WoW is much better(yet still not exactly brilliant), much longer, and due to the mechanics of different zones for different levels, you can play through the entire game twice and go in almost completely different area's for huge portions of the playthrough.

Here you've got one story, one play through, its identical every time and **** the first time around. Its WAY shorter than I thought it would be for a single play through, the bosses are terrible, the AI is rubbish, the fights all end up identical and so far from what I've seen, there is generally 2-3 "must have" powers which means playing any other way, as the difficulty ramps up, becomes pointless.

Then the difficulty, there is, pew pew, oh look everythings dead and I didn't get touched and there is pe..... I'm dead, with little to nothing in between.

I'm bored to tears with it already, and as said because of the absolute lack of different quests to do, stories and locations, I tried a couple alt's but was bored to tears in only a couple hours.

Meh, I just expected more, massively disappointed.

I'm stuck on Hell. :(

I upped my DPS to 7.5k yet elite/champion packs just seem to smash my 51k HP down instantly.

Level 60 Barb. What am I doing wrong?
