DH tanking Diablo on Inferno

If you can't check the link here were his stats:

HP: 37144
Resistances: 605/660/639/605/605/645
Life Steal / Life per Hit: 0
DPS (SS/Non SS) 147,107.28 / 54,251.98
Attack Speed: 2.27
Dexterity / Dodge: 2088 / 40.88%
Armor / Damage Reduction: 3927 / 56.69%

He pretty much just stood there and took hits which would normally one shot a glass cannon DH.

That all said he also made good use of Shadow Power (Gloom).

Spec:

Hungering Arrow / Devouring Arrow
Elemental Arrow / Nether Tentacles
Preparation / Focused Mind
Marked For Death / Mortal Enemy
Companion / Bat Companion
Shadow Power / Gloom
Passives: Archery / Perfectionist / Sharpshooter

If you don't know or can't remember as most people pass over the skill:

Shadow Power:
Draw in the power of the shadows, gaining 20% of all damage done as Life for 3 seconds.
Gloom:
Reduce incoming damage by 65% while Shadow Power is active.

That all said res and armor can help. Granted this guy has quite high/expensive gear. But isn't that what Diablo is all about ? working towards them "perfect" gear sets.

I've started using Shadow Power (gloom) more in my build. I think it is so highly under rated because so many are caught up on SS being the be and end all. Not to mention most people seem to like the glass cannon builds. But personally I hate being a glass cannon. But you know that is what is good about this game. DIVERSITY ! :D

Slowly regearing my monk, currently at 29k hp, 16k dps and 6XX all resists, 1093 LoH and I still need to get 2 rings and decent weapons :)

Im actually gearing up the character without using one with everything, once ive got 2 rings (looking at circa 5million for both) I should be at around 750 ish all resists.

Well that will be down to a matter of testing. I'm still slowly working my way through Act 2 inferno. I'm not really struggling just have not got as much time to play as I would like :p But with my res and good use of Shadow Power I can take a good two/three hits from a mortor from champ packs which again would normally one shot a DH. I only have approx 250 all resist. So I think with more resist and more armor I will be fine and take a two/three maybe even four ! :) hits which is all I want. I just don't like being one shotted and thinking what the hell !!?! because that will just annoy me greatly lol

Can take several mortars with good use of smokescreen too :)

In Act II + Inferno? that res actually matters?

The damage spike from Act I > II spikes ridiculously that makes buying into All Resistance gear useless as you will have lower dps. I always search for gear that has Crit Dmg, Crit Chance, Attack Speed and Dex.

It's kill or be killed. Most elites packs I can kill before they reach me but there are some affixes that are a pain such as shielding, invulnerable minions (both are getting nerfed in a future patch), vortex and teleport.

Dude what

You dont need all res as a DH, you shouldn't really be taking hits.

Dex/All Res pieces are expensive because Monks want them, not DH's. Especially pieces that have all res + singular res, so monks can stack a single res and get double the benefit from one with everything.

Lol, the only thing I changed on my gear was boosting my res from 19 (5% damage reduction) to around 166-200 (35-40% DR) and a slightly increase in armour to 2500 from 2000 at the cost of a small amount of dex.

I don't care how much dps you've got, it only takes a single serpent you didn't notice to appear next to you and 1 shot you before you can react. At least with that res/hp I could normally survive and Inferno Belial is almost impossible to kill on DH without taking a single hit without MASSIVE luck and DPS and attaining such a high dps is FAR more expensive than obtaining a few pieces of all res armour with dex.

Especially when as you say, Monks want Dex + All Res + Single Res, or they can just go for a Single Res and ignore All Res if its cheaper. Its nothing like Str gear where Barbs want all + phys + str.

Yesterday I bought a pair of pants had ~150 dex (with 2 +34 gems in) 45 res and ~30 vit I paid 50k gold for them :D

Wish I could find a pair with as much as that for that cheap

I can still survive the odd hit in Act III but for the most part I still get 1 shot. Would be nice to be able to survive a single hit from a damn Soul Rippers tongue.

Gonna play devils advocate here, but that's why you should use SS :D

Denied :p

I've made it to the Battlefield on Act 3 without it so I'm not starting now ^^

Whaaaaaaaaat

Sitting here advocating resistances so you can take hits but dont touch smokescreen?

Jesus what the hell am I reading

No offense but that just seems backwards to me.

Reactions are not always going to be fast enough or a bit of lag will not help you there.

If a serpent sneaks up on you and is in melee and pops out of stealth and wacks you thats all going to happen very VERY quickly. Thats a potential one shot if you dont have any res or HP to take the hit. You would have to have extremely fast reactions to be able to see it as it comes out of stealth and SS straight away to avoid it hitting you. Personally I do not have the lighting fast reactions to do that.

With some res and HP you could take the first hit (heck maybe even the second... like I can :D ) at which point you can then either SS/vault/SP whatever you as a player does.

But again thats why diablo is fun imo. Lots of varity. There seems to be a lot of DH's that like the glass cannon approach. Lots and lots of dps and rely purely on SS. I don't like that approach. So while my dps might not be as high as some, I will certainly live longer tho :p

Plus as mentioned on this thread already, imo pure dps gear is far more expensive than "average" dps gear with some res/vit. Least thats what I have found.

Do you mean you can stand there and turret them down before they reach you? If so I'd like to know what unbuffed dps and crit dmg/chance/ias you are at coz I am nowhere near able to do this in Act III/IV at ~75kdps.

If you mean kiting/stutterstepping so they dont get a chance to reach you then yeah, I'm with you :) Vortex = vault (they always pause before attacking you after a vortex) and teleport = SS you can deal with both relatively easily with good discipline management. Invun minions are a pain in the backside tho, just have to chip away at them. Reflect damage i really hate and is the only thing I keep my vitality even slightly up for, plus i have a 1k life on hit bow that gets pulled out for those, switch some IAS items out and again chip away but its no fun tbh.

Ran into a vortex, frozen, shielding champion earlier. Which sounds easy enough, except the ******* seemed to have a constant shield and was dropping freeze bombs every half second. Took me a good few minutes to eventually kill the *******, was so annoying as I couldn't get any combos going as he would reshield after 1 hit and sit in it for a good 10-20 seconds, wasn't even possible to runoff, as I was instantly vortexed back into freeze :(

Smokescreen + Vault + Preparation are just too godly a combo <3

Sounds like a fun skillbar you have there. You and every other DH out there no doubt? What are the other skills, Bat Companion, Nether Tentacles and Evasive Fire or Hungering Arrow?

I've been told I must use SS since I started Nightmare. And yes, the skill is still clearly overpowered. Prevents all damage and breaks snares? Aside from being cheaper Vault serves absolutely zero purpose because the leap is just pathetic by comparison.

Not all enemies pause after a vortex. The fastest of enemies will hit you before you can vault away (like those stupid spiderlings).
