*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Here you go Nexus18, this is the clear TPU case from the seller on ebay. It doesn't add much bulk to the phone and it's well protected! Best of all it was only £3!!

Thanks very much :)

I quite like it! Although not too keen on the back design part and the bumpy texture on the sides (granted I imagine this makes it better to hold in the hand though).

I also like how it keeps the sleek/minimal design of the front as well.

Will see how I get on with the nillkin case and if things don't go as planned :p, shall be ordering one of these but the completely clear version, I think :)

EDIT:

How are the volume buttons to press? Is there a cutout for the power/lock button, if not how does it feel to press as well?

Those cases are cheap and nasty, I had one for the S2.

You like the One S design so much, don't ruin it you fools! :p

:p

I was waiting for a post saying something along those lines from you :p :D

If I knew for a fact that my one S was guaranteed to not chip at all and not look terrible after a drop onto the concrete floor, I wouldn't be looking any further than just the nillkin or case mate barely there etc.

There's no cut outs for the power or volume button as you can see from the pictures below, however they're still very easy to press and the case doesn't impede on the functionality of the One S.

It's better to be safe then sorry. I rather have a HTC One S that hasn't chipped and is in pristine condition as I always end up selling my phones on and want the best possible price for it. Cheap case or not the more money I can get for a phone when I sell it the better for me.

Can you not get it changed for a new model that doesn't chip, or won't HTC help you with that? Seems a shame. :(

If I start to experience the chipping issue, I could probably get it exchanged for the new design (HTC did release a statement stating that if you have the chipping issue to return it [no questions asked] and get a replacement), however, I am concerned that it could turn out to be a complete hassle and maybe getting back to me and saying that it is just wear and tear and therefore they won't exchange it (which they have said to a few people over at XDA when they tried :() or/and getting devices back, which are no better or even worse.

Won't know until my device does start to show a sign of the problem and to the point where it does need to be exchanged. So it could happen tomorrow, a week from now or even a month, no telling for sure unfortunately :(

@stoosh

Thanks for those photos :)

Ah, thought the case covered the volume buttons going by the first lot of pics. That is good then!

The bumpy texture on the sides doesn't look as bad in that first photo there.

Really do like the way it keeps the front minimal but with a tiny bit of a "lip".

Having a look around for these rock cases for the S as well now, unfortunately they don't cover the top or bottom fully either. Want to see why everyone is ranting and raving about them in the GS 3 thread :p

Nice one guys! :D

I look forward to hearing what you think of the S when you get your hands on them! :)

The one S is finally getting more popular now! About time as well! :p :D

Really want to sample the S4 chip - from what I've heard :p, it's like a cheetah on steroids.

Shame the Gray option wasn't available - I really like the look of that bar the blue ring.

This is literally the only problem i have with the phone atm. It's not much of a problem though unless its a very image heavy page which takes a while with my **** internet :(

It should be loading from the cache after a reset. Opera mobile, Chrome etc all do. The S4 is super speedy in that scenario! 3 seconds loading anandtech compared to 4.5 seconds for a cortex A9 based phone.

What was your previous phone?

I've gone back to the Arc, it's the perfect size and weight for me (almost identical to the One S)
It'll be interesting to do a real world performance/efficiency comparison between the two.

You will probably say it doesn't feel any faster than your GS 2 knowing you! :p

I think you will be impressed with the performance though as with my S, that is what it really feels like to me, but I have disabled an awful lot of apps and sense stuff now, have 64 apps installed.

Also if you want to get the best speed for wifi related stuff i.e. browsing, streaming films etc. be sure to go to wifi>menu>advanced>best wifi performance

That makes wifi related tasks a bit quicker I found and allowed me to play films, tv shows via BS player lite lan mode smoothly, however, I think it makes the wifi signal strength a bit weaker and not as consistent and last time I left it enabled constantly it drained the battery pretty damn quickly! Need to test this out properly though with comparisons to the wifi stuff with "best performance" turned off and on as I very rarely use that feature.

Also earlier on I was transferring a 1080P video via wifi transfer with "wifi max performance" disabled and was only getting 30kB/s or something like that where as with "wifi max performance" enabled I was then getting 230kB/s, again need to test it more thoroughly to see if that is consistent for both settings.

Plus if you go to developer settings, you can force GPU rendering (uses 2D hardware acceleration in apps that don't support HWA), haven't had any problems with it enabled and the apps that weren't super smooth before are super smooth now :p

Yeah, I seen a dummy grey model in the shop before I got my S and it was pretty nice looking the way it had a lighter shade at the top of the back and then got darker as you went down, or it may have been the other way round, can't remember which :p (reminded me of the nexus one design, which is my favourite mobile for design/looks yet). Didn't like the blue ring either and the front though, love the pure black look for the front of the MAO model. Also found the grey model a bit more slippy to hold.

Ah right nice :)

Yeah very similar, the S is slightly larger but thinner and a couple of grams heavier.

I have never properly used an arc, so can't comment at all really, but it should be a pretty nice upgrade overall :)

Found a man-eating spider in the bathroom so thought i'd try snap a picture of it :p The tap to focus is really weird. It would often go perfectly sharp and clear midway through focussing and end up being a blurry mess. Possibly because of not enough light? I'm not sure.

This is the best one which seemed to focus OK once i had a torch pointing at it. 'Close-up' mode turned on but didn't seem to make a difference tbh.

And after a quick photoshop OTT sharpen :p:

Not bad :)

That's not a particularly good picture, I've seen far better quality ones taken with phones of those sorts of spiders.

Someone on here posted one of a spider like that taken with a GS2 and it really was brilliant. You don't seem to have much lighting though so that won't help.

Plus, you'll upset all the big girls blouses on here. :p

Yeah it was really dark so I thought it was quite good considering.

Isn't that half the fun? :D
