Of course there is going to be more 2D tickets sold, because the fact is that there are less cinemas equipped for 3D than 2D worldwide.
I worked on on two of those above films and there was never any pretence that the 3D was going to sell more than the 2D ticket sales. However, it still makes a pretty healthy profit from the 3D compared to the cost required to do a Conversion or Shoot in 3D, that's what matters.
Also there are 2D screenings out there, sure there might not be as many in UK multiplexes, but they are still there.
I'm still not buying this rubbish about Prometheus either... so what if the midnight screenings were only in 3D... that's a small fraction of the opening box office. As I said before, my local Odeon has it on 3 times a day in 2D since it opened. If you really don't want to see 3D, go to a 2D performance. Ultimately if everyone hated it as much as people make out, then they would vote with their feet and either see it in 2D, wait for the home video release, or not at all. This currently doesn't appear to be the case.
