What did you do to your bike today?

... **** myself after tanking it on one section of open and empty flat road... MMmm... lets say going very quick!!! and then realising when I got off the bike... that my back tyre was shredded lol... it was in the minimum when I left, obviously it hurt it a little with how I was riding lol.



So, just ordered a new set of front and rears... should be here Tuesday. Also ordered a new set of ProGrips for the bike... not in any rush for these, they'll come when they come lol

Fitted a new air filter, Bled the rear brake again but got it right this time & the rear brake is superb now. Picked up a couple of new plugs to go with the new oil filter & o ring for tomorrows Oil & Filter change. I've also collected spare bulbs for indicators/front&rear lights to stick under my seat just in case.
Bikes great, Super comfortable & a joy to bomb around on. :cool:
 
decided that i needed a project for my new bike,

so i threw it down the road at 30mph in the rain yesterday.

ended up in A&E till this morning, spent the night listening to a 50 year old crack head and a person who was snoring like a harley davidson with no mufflers. XRays and CT scan later i'm starting to remember stuff.

needless to say, got a bit of work to do to her. most expensive part being a new tank. unless i just spring for a leather tank cover at the moment then later once I've thrown it down the road a couple more times might replace it.

needless to say, this will be a learning experience about grip in the rain and also how to repair basic stuff on the bike.
 
Ouchies, hope your ok fella, the only kinda thing you should repair as a matter of course are things that effect the safety of yourself, ie, any frame/suspension/braking faults, you can safely leave the cosmetic stuff till you come to sell up, that way, as you rightly pointed out, if it gets binned again, it won't matter too much.

Oh & congrats on the right of passage which we all get to experience, your now officially one of us. :p

I'm in a similar position to you after I binned my CB1000R at around 50mph at Brands Hatch two weeks back.

Put new left rear set, original levers back on, new helmet and I was back on the road yesterday. Most annoying thing is the dented tank, (I've ordered a cover for now) and actually the heated grips. They are the new Honda ones with the control on the edge of the grip. They appear to have stopped working as some of the handle is worn away.

As you say, it's a good learning opportunity.
 
Well, it was today (1am in the morning) and I was down in the garage while the house slept with some Brasso/Metal Polish giving my exhaust a good old buffing ROFL...

In all seriousness, was astounded how much **** came off the Devil Exhaust... I'd obviously washed previously and just got a duster on it. However last night, got the "rag" brasso stuff and went over the whole thing, just to see if I could take any scuffs and also some odd little water blemishes on it... couldn't believe the difference when I'd finished... a lot of the swirls had gone on the metal, there was a proper proper shine and gleam to the metal, was well chuffed and 1 hour well spent.

Finished off trying to get the last bits of oil and crud off the chain and sprocket, think I've gone as far as I can... was hoping to get it really clean and shiny and failed. Got all the excess crud off and the chain isn't all clogged up now, however the chain and sprocket have been stained by the oil etc, so I'll lube with some dry lube and that's as good as it'll get. Still look 1000% better than it did... hate oil and crud everywhere, no need for it in this day and age.

Hopefully will get the new tyres on this week if it's dry as I need to ride to the centre for fitting which is 15-20 minutes away... which raise this QUESTION - Based on the tyre picture earlier in this thread will it be safe to ride at say 40mph for 20 minutes to the tyre place on that rear tyre? What's peoples view on this one?
 
As long as it's dry & your not behaving like an ass, then i don't see why not, ive seen far worse tires than that in my travels.
 
Sandblasted the front headlight yoke and dropped it off the to powdercoaters last week. Collected it yesterday all new and shiny :) It was badly stone chipped before.

Fitted my new clear indicator lenses and new high powered headlight bulb today too.

Mate, I ain't got the skills to ride like an ass lol... believe me ;) So, in theory it shouldn't suddenly go bang or something mental then, I was worried sh*tless when I first seen it... I'll be riding well slow, just to get there and get missus to drop tyres off.

Also, while on the subject, quoted £20 notes per wheel to get them fitted and balanced with disposal of old tyres so £40 notes all in, that seem a fair price?
 
My local place charges me a tenner a wheel to fit/balance/dispose, but he's a 1 man band, indie bike shop who ive been going to for decades, so 20 notes a pop sounds about right.

Do it, was actually going to post about this in another thread, I hate how a lot of bikes have done these rear ends lately, all sticky out and not looking nice. That reflector, will it go under the rear tail light? Will it squeeze under?

Also, if you just remove, is that an MOT failure?

It is, a lot of folk resort to those god awful little round stick on reflectors, stuck onto there number plate, a little bit of thought, & a smidge of ali plate for a bracket, & things would look a whole lot nicer in the reflector dept.

It looks pretty bad I reckon. If I were you I would take they wheels off the bike and take them to your tyre place for fitting. Also, I know it's unlikely but you would be gutted if you got stopped by the rozzers... 3 points for an illgeal tyre isn't it?
