oh and the rear is worse. I refuse to try and remove these pistons without spare seals

Bike had its MOT today. Knew i needed a back tyre, got told i need a new front tyre, rear brake pads, rear caliper rebuild and new battery.

£406 total!!

until i got to the shop and questioned had the battery even been fitted as it wasnt on the receipt, to find it had, only not been charged for it!!!

total - £455!!! :mad::mad:

no other advisorys though

That's just mind blowing expensive!

45T IRRC, he got 2 new tyres fitted for £160 and they were good tyres too. New battery about £30?
Calliper seals £10-£15?
New rear pads £10-£20?

Get online dude and get some researching done, save your self a fortune if you can't afford it!

My bike lives again!

Got it up and running tonight, went for a little ride but only a couple of miles as I still have no front light/fairing, indicators or mirrors!

Seemed to pull good but I didnt take it over 6k, will see what happens above there once its back together.

Just after my little ride!

Found one of the rubber plugs off a carb top when I got back, seems the plastic tube has snapped off the top of no. 2 carb so I have that to sort out tomorrow.

Sprayed up the front fairing frames tonight, my first bit of spraying with a proper air gun and I think it went good, will see the results when its dry tomorrow!

:D

All finished!!

These are the only bits I had left,

2012-06-01193317.jpg

Plugs and o-rings were changed for new, the dowel was a spare that was on the other barrels and the 3 bolts were swapped for stainless as they look nicer! So no leftover parts, something went wrong there!!

Got a few hundred miles to put on the bike to run it in this weekend, 500 miles below 6k, should be fun...

:p

Engine started rattling, thought I was in for some wallet pain. Purchased a new cam chain tensioner hoping it would fix the issue. RHS Fairing off, out with old CCT, in with new - 10-15min job... AND..... problem solved!! :D No more rattles.

Cheers :)

This was actually the first bike engine Ive rebuilt, granted I only touched the top end but its fairly simple really, just a little pricey!
Head rebuild was £330, gaskets and stem seals were ~£100 and then theres about £50 for oil, plugs, anti-freeze etc.

Still, good practice for the turbo build coming up :D

I managed 60 miles on the GSXR today, not exactly the distance I had planned for running the engine in but with the rain and soaking roads its enough!

Only been up to 6k but it doesn't hang about getting there, in 5th at about 30mph it pickes up ~4k then I can feel it picking up again just before 6k.

Give it a few more miles of keeping the revs down but the engine loaded and ill feel better about holding WOT a bit longer and in lower gears and see what surprises lie after the 6k mark, last thing I want to do is glaze the bores!

Im looking forward to some dry weather and another OcUK track day!!

Fitted a top box for next weekend!

Its a Renntec rack with a Kappa mounting plate and a 52L Maxia top box.

Had to make an aluminium plate to go under the Kappa mount as its only plastic and flexed too much when mounted to the Renntec rack.
Just have the 2 clamping plates underneath to clean up and find out a couple of stainless bolts.

@Danm54 Nice job fella... although it looks a little far back, that norm al for these is it? What's the occasion next weekend mate?

As for me, well, had to take my Wife and Son Skydiving @ Grange Over Sands today, so spent most of the day sitting there waiting... however they both did the business from 14,000ft up and lived to tell the tail. Got home, 6pm... then did a cheeky hour on Eric, just up the back roads, up to Prestatyn Beach, had a cheeky cuppa and sat watching the sea and everyone on the beach then came home 90 minutes only... need a new set of tyres now.

Got some steel wool on the bottom of the front forks tonight to get rid of that furry horrible looking corrosion (Suzuki build quality).

It's come up a lot better, the first leg I did has come up heaps and bounds, may have to go over the second one mind.

Cant really go any further forward, sitting in the pillion seat its about right to lean back against. They dont make proper Givi racks for these bikes so I guess thats the best im going to get for just a top box.

:)

Went out with the old man today, him on my old cbr and me on my newer one :D

Good ride, although the weather was a bit rubbish :(

Oh and ignore the epic parking, we had to stop suddenly as one of my backpack straps decided that functioning as a strap was boring and just let go.

Today I got the locks, cover chain cleaner and lube etc.... Nothing exciting apart from maybe carrying 2 heavy chains, ground anchor, disclock and various other bits for 3 miles :(

Tomorrow will be preparing for the MOT on tuesday so I will post pass/fail then as I know VoG is watching me lol
