*** The official HTC One S thread ***

I haven't, but the best deal that I have seen for the S on T-mobile is:

- 750MB data
- £21 a month for 24 months and no upfront cost
- 100 minutes
- unlimited texts

You just missed an epic deal at CPW for the S on vodafone network though :(

As for chipping issues, I think you should be fine with whatever version you get now as it seems like it may have only been an issue with the first few batches. But the new version should have a bevelled USB port and slightly smoother edges than the old one:

http://www.android-hilfe.de/attachm...38285201-verarbeitungsfehler-beim-one-s-1.jpg
http://www.android-hilfe.de/attachm...8285201-verarbeitungsfehler-beim-one-s-22.jpg

And you can just tell them there and then that if you do experience the chipping issue, you have every right to return the mobile and get a replacement S, no questions asked. Just show them all the threads on the internet and news sites if they do question you:

http://androidcommunity.com/htc-offers-immediate-fix-for-one-s-chipping-issues-20120412/

Some people are complaining about signal strength as well, however, I and most others in this thread have no problems with it. Again if you do experience this problem get a replacement if possible and see if it persists.

I think those are the only 2 problems that some people are experiencing.
Thanks. I was actually in cpw yesterday and asked about that deal. I haven't spoken to t-mobile about my upgrade though so I didn't wanna jump ship. I hope that doesn't come back to hahaunt me! I'd like to think I could get a similar deal out of them..

As for those pics, I can only look in my phone at the mo but can't really see the differences. What am I looking at exactly?

Yeah you should be able to get a good deal out of T-mobile if your contract is up, just say you are going to leave them for said reason, however, unless they can match or better that deal, you'll stay ;)

Also will depend on the person that you speak to, so it may take a few go's :p

Network providers do not like to loose customers :p

I also went to CPW to see if they could match that deal, guy took down the info. and asked me to show him the website doing the deal, showed him it, he went of and came back a few minutes later and said there was no way he could match it or anywhere near the deal  but that was when the mobile was just released so :p

TBH those pics aren't great anyway, they should have used 2 grey models to show the differences......

The USB port on the black one is more bevelled and the "sharpish" edges at the top and side should look more smooth, very hard to see that difference though.

@Nexus18 Hello Mate! I'll have a look at the weather app soon. When something works why bother changing it eh? :D

I find it hilarious watching Cats eat everything when they get a chance! I was watching a cat stroll around in a square and it got hold of a wasp and ate it, however I think the wasp didn't agree with it and the cat ended up coughing it back up. It was funny the way it reacted to the wasp! ;)

Excellent video Mate, TC didn't leave that bowl alone and attacked it from every angle and licked it totally clean! No need to wash the bowl at all! :p

I doubt that I'll get the XL if the internal memory's 16gb as it's too small. I've been very frugal with the memory on my S however I came across my first problem today, I wanted to download Max Payne on the S but need 1.37Gb to run the game. Try as I might I tried to free up memory by deleting MP3's, albums, anything I could find to get more space, however I ran out of things to delete and was still unable to install the game on my phone :(

I just wish the S had a micro sd slot or more memory!

My first and only disappointment with the One S so far...

Am I reading that right? :p

As nikzGfx said, the majority of people probably don't care (the average joes), only puts the ones who know their stuff about android and phones in general regarding hardware details off.

But it is the main reason why a lot of people on XDA etc. didn't get one :(

well yeah i like the design :) i never owned HTC phone + its no slower than my s2 and has good camera/cpu ram etc.. :) the only thing that holds me back is the 10gb(for music pics etc) that is just stupid in every way.. i know i won't be able to live with it and i would ditch it soon after getting because of that :(

I love my One S but the signal is really poor at times, usually when you go out of a city....

Also it keeps fluctuating between 5 bars and no signal "x" when i am in the same place

Hell, I thought it was only me

Mine does all of the above too. It's great in the bl***y Three shop but move out the city and signal is all over the place. Been away this week and it's been the same tale. Sitting in cafes with no signal.

I mentioned before in another thread that I originally swapped my One S for another which was just the same and then contacted HTC. They requested it back for investigation and repair and er ... updated the software and sent it back. Could have done that myself  Even worse they sent it back loose in a box and managed to chip one edge  Signal is pretty much the same and it was maybe wishful thinking on my part as it seems to disconnect less.

I'm on Three too and we have a good signal but not that the One S makes any use of it. It's a great phone or should I say pocket computer but not so good as a phone? All this said I don't seem to miss many calls! Signal issue certainly spoils what could have been a good phone. Great battery life and fast too. I tend to think it is maybe a software issue but to be honest I'm not at all sure.

I've rooted mine and also flashed TrickDroid 4.3 and flashed Tweak Machine both off of XDA. All has been fine. Got rid of that stupid (IMO) three dot menu and moved settings to task manger button. Task manager is now a long press on the home button which works well. Still using Sense but dumped such as facebook and other ****. Quick settings as a tab on the notifications menu is useful.

My first and only disappointment with the One S so far...

Or 32mb onboard. Dropbox is a useless alternative to extra storage on board - more so when you factor in the iffy 3G connection.

Another gripe I've come across is the screen quality. Now I know it's not quite up to iPhone or One X but I do find mine pretty damn good :D

@stoosh

Indeed! :D

 Not good that! Very dangerous as well if you get a bee/wasp in the mouth :( Haha yeah they have amazing reactions/expressions, it is one of the main things that make them so adorable :)

Thanks :) Lol yeah, he just can't get enough of food! :D Surprised he isn't the fattest cat in the world tbh :p as a couple of our neighbours feed him sometimes as well.

Shame that :( I am not a huge mobile gamer and not particularly keen on games like Max Payne and any other type of shooting games etc. for mobile devices, as the screen is still too small and on screen controls just doesn't cut it (although thankfully with android we can use wii, PS 3 and 360 controllers etc. :D but not the best method when out and about :p lol) More of a puzzle, simple game kind of guy, something like angry birds :o, bmx boy, basketball shoot (they get boring quickly though :() etc.

I have enough storage left for games like Max payne though (about 7.5GB), may have to give it a shot at some point.

@grudas

Completely agree with you on the storage! It really was a stupid move by HTC to not have at least the same amount of storage as the X or/and a SD slot on all the one series mobiles :(

I am sure that they will realise it was a big mistake going down that route in the end.

@Richy888

What sort of battery life are you getting with that ROM there? :) Have seen a couple of people say that they can get 8 hours on screen time with it  I am having a hard time believing that though (unless they have screen on 0% brightness all the time or/and don't browse at all :p)

The HOX is getting a 4.0.4 update very soon and one feature HTC have added to it is to give the multitasking button the ability to act as a menu button and long press hold to switch to recent apps.

Hopefully the One S gets a base update as well.

I was cracking up watching the cat cough up the wasp Mate and then all it did was paw the was for a while then a butterfly caught its attention and the cat ran after that!

TC must do a lot of running around that's why he isn't fat!

I'm not much of a mobile gamer however Max Payne is one of my all time fav games, I absolutely love the series and can't get enough of it! I had about 6gb of music and a few tv episodes and films on the S which took up the memory. I was using the S as my PMP and pretty much listen to all the music that's on my S. The TV episodes I watched, as well as the film leaving 1.5Gb free but if I were to install Max Payne on the phone that would've been it for the memory, so I decided against installing the game which is a shame.

@Richy888 I don't know why people complain about the screen quality, I think it's awesome! As soon as I saw it I wondered what the hell people were complaining about, as it was so vibrant and amazingly clear :)

PLEASE LET US GET THE UPDATE SOON!!!! :D

Best news I have heard all day :p :o :D

(Pretty sure that the S will get that feature/update soon, X will get it first though and then the S a few weeks/a month later :()

I don't think there will be any need for me to root then! :p :D

Only reason left for root now, is to get rid of ads!!!!

Actually does anyone know why there isn't an app that would get rid of ads without it having to require SU access/root?

One S was delivered today. I'll get my hands on it 2moro...finally. :)

Nice one! Look forward to hearing what you think :)

Lol, amazing animals! :D They absolutely love butterflies! :D TC catches everything there is, lol, he has caught/killed 3-4 baby mice and a bunny! :( Leaves them on the drive way or the back garden somewhere.

Oh, he most certainly does! :p Goes absolutely hammers around the back garden, running around catching the leaves etc. :D Will have to get a video of him going mad :) He is a very big cat though (about 2 and a half years old now), Sprite is still kitten size, lol (she is about 5-6 years old).

:( See that is mainly why I am not too bothered about the storage as I am not a huge music person, I only have like 5GB in total and a couple of albums are FLAC and 2 are over 700MB and besides I wouldn't even listen to half of that! :o

If I do listen to music whilst at home, I would just stream it via estrongs explorer or some other method over the wifi connection from my PC.

TV episodes and films would be great for when you're on the move/long journey on the bus and whilst in work etc. but again I am the sort of person who rather just watch the stuff at home in peace :p with a nice drink & something to eat and on the 42" TV or my 23" PC monitor, much bigger and much better quality as well as better sound quality :D :p

But it really does suck for people like yourself who have a large music selection and want to throw a few films/tv episodes etc. on as well :(

Heck even the 1080P recording takes up a xxxx load of space! 35MB for 30 seconds of 1080P footage!

I'll second that about the screen! (again :p) :)

So, all in all we agree that HTC are great and incredibly stupid at the same time. :o

Yup pretty much! :D :p :o

The only time i can see storage being a problem is if i went away for more than a few days. But if that were the case i'd most likely have my laptop with me with a ton more films/music on so it's not really a problem. 3 films and a reasonable selection of music is plenty for most occasions imo. Then if i really needed more i'd get unlimited data and use spotify or something.

Does anyone else use an MHL adapter with their One S?

I've stumbled across an issue with mine.

Connected to a 46" 1080p tv I get - 1080p @24hz which is rubbish for games.
A 32" tv gives me 1280x720 @50hz whch is much better.

Anyone else have similar? Trying to fix by messing around with the kernel to stop the 1080p 24hz.

Likewise.

Or if the storage is really a problem, a good alternative is to root and flash a tweak so you can connect USB storage devices via a micro USB cable e.g. a 32GB USB flash drive (which you could just carry around in your pocket everyday very easily) or a hard drive, which is enclosed in a casing that has a USB port.

Hmmm, just thinking there, do we need to root in order to do that? I know that the GS 3 on stock works just fine with the above. Not sure about HTC/one s though?

If it does, I may have to get a small 8GB+ USB pen and the appropriate cable then :p

Yup I do :)

I did a mini review of the one that I got:

http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1071937-htc-one-s/page__st__15__p__594848957#entry594848957

Also have the same issue you mentioned, wasn't sure if it was just a problem with my TV, a setting or the MHL cable :o But I guess it is the phone now :p

I personally found the games to be smooth enough. Although I didn't play any games like max payne, dead space etc. where it might be a bit more noticeable.

Yes !! sorted it, taken me ages to find the code in the kernel.

I got 720p@60hz now on my big tv !!. I'll post details for anyone wanting to flash the kernel.

Really? wow there was so much lag, Mame games for example due to the low refresh rate.

Yup :p But then again I am one of the people who finds crysis on the PC to be smooth at 30FPS :p :o

Yeah that would be great if you could post it here please :) Not rooted etc. yet but I am sure that I will do it someday :p

Would it be possible to get 60hz at 1080P/i? IIRC mrk was getting 60hz at 1080i on his TV with the GS 2.
