Returning a graphics card

Is there a time limit on requesting chargebacks from a bank? What happens to the item if I request one? All trading standards can do is send a letter after 30 days of me cancelling the contract (is that today or the 14th? I only mentioned the DSR today, the 14th was a standard "I want to return this item" email). So if chargebacks are time limited I may have to request one before trading standards can write their letter. The next step is a small claims court, which I would not proceed with!

Edit: technically it's not trading standards, it's the trading standards institute, which seem to be the letter sending arm of trading standards :P

You can only chargeback if you paid on credit card tho. Not sure if i saw how you paid.

Stick with it, they cannot refuse a DSR return. Im suprised a company as big as that is being so akward.

Edit: From reading that page it seems that chargeback is possible by debit, but if you use credit the bank is now legally responsible to get the money back to you. So credit carries more weight (because of section 75), but chargeback is still possible on debit cards. Let's hope Santander want to play nice!

They are models, as is the mondeo... GeForce is a brand.

It's a bit of a pointless argument... I just can't stop for some reason... Lol

While I am waiting for the guy reply I don't see why not :D I get the impression he is ignoring me now, his reply to the last email was rather quick (and he was quick to reply last night too). He seems to be mailing from an @live address rather than his @retailer address, might send the email to his work one too just to make sure he reads it.

Chase trading standards... They can't do anything til it's been 30 days I believe (although maybe the denial emails will speed things up - worth asking).

I don't recognise that site, technically a competitor, but it would be nice to know who to never touch with a barge pole :)
 
DSR works very well in your favour.

As a shop we had a customer order a tricycle which we order in and it takes up a fair amount of space. The initial deposit was taken online/phone but it was picked up and balance paid in store.

It was taken and ridden once but they didn't like it....we still had to take it back according to trading standards as it fell into DSR due to the deposit not being in the shop.

Good times to be had!
 
This company seem very odd. On trustpilot they have 8.5 out of 10 with ~75 reviews. It seems to be a love/hate experience, with the majority of bad reviews having replies from the company apologising. Time to stretch the writing fingers and write a review, will put "law breaking" in there for good measure.

You didnt contact Trading Standards, absolute load of tosh. What you might have done is rung consumer direct, who are NOT trading standards.

Trading standards DO NOT get involved with general members of the public - if you dont believe me firstly try and find a relevant phone number for them, then call them, you'll be told to ring consumer direct.

These are the people I contacted: http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/advice/index.cfm who are the Trading Standards Institute who advised me of my rights as a consumer. They took down the company name, my name and telephone number and what the situation was and advised me of my rights as a consumer. Nowhere in this thread have I said I have contacted Trading Standards, its the "institute" who handled my query.

Found my local, took 30 seconds on google.

I don't know why your always like this in any thread about DSR, you have come here before spouting stuff about its not covered etc. Even when a google would clearly show it is covered. Are you a trader by any chance? Possibly annoyed by the rights consumers have?

I have spoken to trading standards myself before, in a different town though. They will READILY accept calls from the public and if they deem some information you supply valid they will often investigate. They are unlikely to give you many details however unless they want some more data.
I haven't heard of them dealing directly with a matter on behalf of a customer, what they willdo is write to a company or visit to clarify an issue if they deem it important. Such as fake goods, illegal working etc

I would suspect failure to abide by DSR they would investigate by passing to the Trading Standards office closest to the registered business address.

Edit to say I have now read that OP spoke to TS institute whO probably would deal and advise on an individula case, exactly what I doubted the "normal" TS would do.
