spot on

Utd desperately need a RB option even without the possibility of Evra getting injured, Fryers and Fabio played around ~10 games between them last season maybe a few more - Evra cant possibly play even more games if Utd expect to progress further in CC/FA Cup (even more CL) games.

As Nick Powell is being lickened to Jones by SAF, he will surely play 20 + games in midfield (if he is good enough he is old enough). Surely that covers a lot of bit part players from last season - although admittedly that relies on Cleverely having a much stronger season also.

As a whole apart from RB, I dont see the squad being any weaker, and potentially stronger (depending on how Powell and Cleverely develope)

Not sure I agree on the RB situation. Yes it's a spot up for grabs with Rafael, Jones and Smalling (and Valencia in an Emergency) all able to put a stint in. I think Rafeal will prevail and be our first choice RB for years to come assuming he steers clear of injury and a move to sunnier climbs. He has a good understanding with Tony V so I think our right hand side is sorted.

LB wise, Baines - No Thanks. Another position we don't need strengthening (IMHO). If the money is their for Baines at anything over £12m, I would much prefer to look and get a midfielder in.

I think if the right player want's to come and they can agree terms then I don't see this being the end of the transfer dealings. Usually when we have been rebuffed on a player, Fergie comes out with the line of shop is closed and no more players coming in. Preseason starts soon so expect the market to start warming up over the next couple of weeks

Still think UTD need a striker and give Rooney that CF role for next season. Chico just isn't a first 11. He is an impact player that comes off the bench. Welbeck is great but isn't a 20 goal a season player, yet.

Wouldn't mind seeing Demba Ba join MAN UTD.

problem is getting the quality for the price, and would then mean relegating welbeck to the bench, which is likely to slow his development down.

right back they have enough cover without what you'd call a solid rb at the moment.

with evra the question is whether there going to look for cover or a replacement, and as with the support for rooney upfront can they get what they need for the money.

still think they could do with a cm due to the issues they have with fletcher/Cleverley, not sure they can afford to rely on what they have.

Assuming Fabio leaves on loan has Fergie said that leaves us with 3 players who played right back regularly last season and...one who played left back. So how are we weaker at right back?

sorry I meant LB / Evra position , not RB lol :D

You expect Evra to play every single game (as there is no other choice at LB, given Fabio is going on loan)? Surely not

Lewadoswki wouldn't be a bad choice but I don't think they would get away buying two Dortmund players.

If Rooney gets an injury next season, we are doomed. We need another out and out goal scorer. We can't rely on what we will get in 2-3 years time.

Berbatov did his part when Rooney was missing but he is likely to leave next season.

As for a RB, Debuchy has looked really good for France. Think he is going to Newcastle though. Would rather see Baines at UTD anyway.... which probably won't happen because of his price tag. Who pays that much for a lb?

A defensive minded CM is what we really need. Its what cost us the title last season IMO. No cover for the back 4. Missing Flecther hurt the team immensely.

No need for another striker with the signing of Kagawa, just play him CF with Welbeck or Hernandez in front.

and Rooney goes where? I don't see Kagawa giving what Rooney gives in a cf posistion. Kagawa is going to used in all sorts of roles. Mostly in an advanced cm posistion I'd imagine. He is too small and weak to do any defensive work like Rooney would do as CF. Kagawa would create more chances as CF though. Rooney in front of him would be great.

Maybe if Rooney plays as a proper ST and put Kagawa CF, that would be great but Rooney never sits still. He is all over the place.

Yeah, relying on talented young players has never worked for United.

Come off it.

Thats not what I was saying. UTD don't expect Welbeck to be scoring 20 goals a season at this point. We have always had 2 experienced goal scorers in our teams. Welbeck can't do that role just yet.

If Rooney gets a knock and misses several games, we will suffer. Berbatov was brillaint when Rooney was out in the 2010/2011 season.

Yorke/Cole
Rooney/Tevez
Rooney/Ronaldo
Rooney/Berbatov
RVN/Forlan
Cantona/Huges
Ole/Teddy

Rooney goes out

Chico/Welbeck ?

Thats why I think another striker is important to get the goals.

Eh? Hernandez is an excellent striker and Welbeck seems to be an international player now. What standard do expect to have sitting on the bench?

I never said Chico wasn't an excellent striker but he is a bench player IMO like Ole. Someone that can come on and change the game. Welbeck/Rooney for now sounds good but my point is if Rooney goes missing then its going to be Chico/Welbeck.

Or Kagawa/Rooney sounds good too. Maybe I am just worrying too much. Sure we will be fine for next season with the attacking options we currently have.

But if a he is bench player then why are you complaining about him sitting on the bench? He will play when the first choice player can't, thats what "bench players" do! If the first choice - Rooney- gets injured then the squad players will come in. You can't have a world class player on the bench for any length of time.

Not sure I explained myself properly.

If UTD sign a striker, say Lewandowski then keep Chico/Welbeck on the bench and have Lewandowski/Rooney start. If Rooney gets injured, we still have Lewandowski to rely on.

If we don't have Lewandowski to rely on then its all upto Welbeck or Chico to score all the goals. Thats just not good enough for UTD. Its like if RVP got injured, theres no one there to fill his role. You might get a few goals out of the bench strikers but not 20+ a season. Thats why they have signed Podolski and Giroud.

You will not keep the likes of Hernandez and Welbeck happy on the bench if another striker is signed.

Welbeck has just been played as the main striker for his country (rightly or wrongly) he will not settle for being 3rd or 4th choice at his club on the back of that.
