As a whole apart from RB, I dont see the squad being any weaker
spot on
Utd desperately need a RB option even without the possibility of Evra getting injured, Fryers and Fabio played around ~10 games between them last season maybe a few more - Evra cant possibly play even more games if Utd expect to progress further in CC/FA Cup (even more CL) games.
As Nick Powell is being lickened to Jones by SAF, he will surely play 20 + games in midfield (if he is good enough he is old enough). Surely that covers a lot of bit part players from last season - although admittedly that relies on Cleverely having a much stronger season also.
As a whole apart from RB, I dont see the squad being any weaker, and potentially stronger (depending on how Powell and Cleverely develope)
Still think UTD need a striker and give Rooney that CF role for next season. Chico just isn't a first 11. He is an impact player that comes off the bench. Welbeck is great but isn't a 20 goal a season player, yet.
Wouldn't mind seeing Demba Ba join MAN UTD.
Assuming Fabio leaves on loan has Fergie said that leaves us with 3 players who played right back regularly last season and...one who played left back. So how are we weaker at right back?
Not sure I agree on the RB situation. Yes it's a spot up for grabs with Rafael, Jones and Smalling (and Valencia in an Emergency) all able to put a stint in. I think Rafeal will prevail and be our first choice RB for years to come assuming he steers clear of injury and a move to sunnier climbs. He has a good understanding with Tony V so I think our right hand side is sorted.
LB wise, Baines - No Thanks. Another position we don't need strengthening (IMHO). If the money is their for Baines at anything over £12m, I would much prefer to look and get a midfielder in.
problem is getting the quality for the price, and would then mean relegating welbeck to the bench, which is likely to slow his development down.
No need for another striker with the signing of Kagawa, just play him CF with Welbeck or Hernandez in front.
That was based on what you were saying about Rooney potentially getting injured.
God I hope we don't have to rely on Chico/Welbeck if Rooney suffers any sort of set back.![]()
Yeah, relying on talented young players has never worked for United.
Come off it.
Eh? Hernandez is an excellent striker and Welbeck seems to be an international player now. What standard do expect to have sitting on the bench?
I never said Chico wasn't an excellent striker but he is a bench player IMO like Ole. Someone that can come on and change the game. Welbeck/Rooney for now sounds good but my point is if Rooney goes missing then its going to be Chico/Welbeck.
Or Kagawa/Rooney sounds good too. Maybe I am just worrying too much. Sure we will be fine for next season with the attacking options we currently have.
But if a he is bench player then why are you complaining about him sitting on the bench? He will play when the first choice player can't, thats what "bench players" do! If the first choice - Rooney- gets injured then the squad players will come in. You can't have a world class player on the bench for any length of time.
Not sure I explained myself properly.
If UTD sign a striker, say Lewandowski then keep Chico/Welbeck on the bench and have Lewandowski/Rooney start. If Rooney gets injured, we still have Lewandowski to rely on.
If we don't have Lewandowski to rely on then its all upto Welbeck or Chico to score all the goals. Thats just not good enough for UTD. Its like if RVP got injured, theres no one there to fill his role. You might get a few goals out of the bench strikers but not 20+ a season. Thats why they have signed Podolski and Giroud.
