MBP 15" retina 3-4 weeks!!

can someone post a vid of the issue in standard lion please?

so we can compare the two?

that would be awesome!

I use ML on mine and honestly it seems fine, I haven't noticed a difference. If there are problems then I don't doubt Apple will work on them. It's an amazing machine, I did kind of wish it was even thinner and lighter but this seems to the best they can do and you really notice an improvement over the regular 15".
And is it wrong to think that the HDMI port is weird? Really unexpected from Apple who have used the miniDP then TB for yonks, I'll take it but I'd have preferred another USB port (not enough of these is quite expected of them).

No ODD, ethernet or line-in are nuisances but I probably won't miss them.

What is the reason for this supposed lag (not seen one in person and I can't really see anything wrong in the youtube video posted). Is it just a scrolling issue in Safari or does it affect other apps as well? I recall a long time ago on SL I got lag in Safari when using 2 finger scrolling, which was fixed by a Safari update.

The only thing affecting the screen would be the GPU, so is it not powerful enough to drive 4x as many pixels as the other MBPs? (The OS, SSD and CPU speeds are more or less the same as other available Macs.)

Anyone in the newcastle are getting impatient. i went to Eldon Square and they had 2 of the base spec in, i bought one and there is one left. i bought mine at closing so the remaining one will be there tomorrow morning.

Eldon Square Newcastle!

Currently Eating my tea, once this has been done i'll be getting the MBP unboxed and Bootcamped in no time!

There was a link further back ( it was from aandtech, or what ever it's alled :) ) I think he was basically explaining what you said there. It has to pump a shed load of pixels, like a lot ;)

If I remember rightly it was explained that the CPU then has to push it to the GPU which chugged things up a bit. Later stated that when using ML it was better. Presumably they worked a way around it. He used Facebook as an example as he said rich in image and text. Was just reading on mac rumours forums all these kiddies using Facebook as a bench mark and others taking the wee.

I would also say that I technically have no idea what I'm talkin about :) but I can see how it makes sense. But for me one of my favourite bits of a mac over any other computer is that scrolling. It's so smooth

I was in westfield today trying out the new mac and I noticed the screen lagging really badly, when I was moving Safari around/ resizing/ scrolling it had some pretty bad lag. I wasnt sure if the 650m was turned on or not (mac noob) so my personally guess was it needed a dedidcated gpu. However I remember at work driving 2x 30" monitor at a similar res off my work notebook which uses intel 3000gpu so I think it is software issue.

On another note I really loved the screen, I'm going to order one of these bad boys once it is releases, only thing ever turned me off a macbook was the seriously low res for such a high price tag.

Just wanted to ask why everything was much more blurry at the best for retina res. I loved everything at 1200p, was scared at first as I read over the internet that things look bad, but it was very very nice, everything was much sharper then my current laptop(Clevo 150HR) and that already had a very nice screen and the IPS display is amazing.

It might be caused by the way that Apple has implemented retina on OSX. It's not as simple as on iOS and maybe it has caught even Apple's developers out.

Ive installed windows and ran 1920x1200 and native res and the scrolling is smooth in both. this could be because windows always uses the dedicated graphics card and not the 4000.

Ive noticed some slight lag with scrolling within osx, haven't installed the latest updates but will update back once ive done this.

How is windows at that res? Does it look OK?

It looks okay, its a lot better looking than running a standard monitor at a lower res than native, a little "fuzzy" would be the way id describe it but not overly so.

Easily usable without too much negative affects, Native res is just too small to read and windows DPI settings are terrible, increases text size but nothing else so looks a mess.

Gaming wise, ran COD BlackOps 1920x1200, 4XAA, MAX settings in every other area, AF max, shadows, warming, impacts on. 60fps fixed to screen refresh.

It looks very weird at native res in windows - ill try and grab a screen shot later for the lols.

You would need great eyesight though, thats for sure!

you happy with yours Steven?

I'd say wait for the refresh then really as I imagine ML is as confirmed as it will get until it can brute force it maybe next refresh.

Here's a decent video anyway showing it under ML.

That just looks like the page is still loading. engadget probably using lazyload js to load images on scroll rather than all at once to save bandwidth. As it doesn't appear to happen after they scrolls back up and then down again and I couldn't notice it in the other apps except iTunes on first scroll which again was likely still loading the page.

EDIT: Just tested iTunes store on a fresh launch and same thing on a Mac Pro w/ 16GB Ram and an SSD.

so are we now thinking that its simply a user scrolling quicker than the page can load the images issue?

I'm be honest, that was first thoughts... be quite happy if that's the case.

Yeah, i think i could use it at native res but the strain on your eyes cant be good for you.

Yeah im very happy with mine, the performance is amazing for the size of the machine, screen quality is a joy to use under osx with the scaling thats used.

Real fallen for this screen, I thought it was mostly hype but at 1200p its just so amazing. It the perfect size and everything is so sharp still, cant get over how amazing this thing is.
