What ROM are you running? By CWM I mean ClockworkMod Recovery. If you can't boot into Recovery from Rom Manager or other ROM software, you can do so by manually booting into Fastboot by turning the phone off, and then holding power and both volume + and -. Then use the volume keys to select Recovery and press Power to enter.

yeah must have lost root access, as trying recovery from the boot i get a android with a red triangle.

im still waiting for new nexus :/ on friday they (O2) said 3 working days...on Tuesday said wednesday..yesterday had a go on them and said today as there was a problem with system lol ....gave me one month line rental back...if I dont get it today, I will tell them to get in touch with nearest o2 shop and I will want to go there and swap it myself for a new unit...
In that case I don't think you need to worry whether you have root in your ROM or not. Get flashing!
Ah just seen your post above. Means you've lost recovery. Download the Galaxy Nexus toolkit and that should be able to root the phone and flash CWM for you.

It's quite simple - you install the drivers, select your phone and follow the options, or alternatively use option 7 which does everything

Well, it's a system dump from the Google I/O Nexus', so could well be an RC. Either way it runs fine so I don't mind.
Nexus saga continues....
New nexus was supposed to be with me by Wednesday...I was told lies etc that system is down .it wasn't delivered today as it was promissed yesterday....spoke to yet one more person today which wanted to get rid of me by saying that I will get order number in 24 hours etc but..
I said that O2 breaches contract by not supplying me working mobile and I'm ready to cancel my contract...so the guy finally placed an order which appeared on my O2 page and should be with me tomorrow.
If not, I will cancel contract and ask for all my money back.

Well as usual UK prices are far above US prices. GN going for £225 (349$ converted) sim free in the US compared to £319 here 
Not sure you need to be able to get into recovery mate, if you follow the steps in the GNex Toolkit?
