I'm not fussy I will happily take a Sandisk Extreme if you put a silly price on it.

I have seen them elsewhere for a lot cheaper, albeit with only a twelve month warranty.

I had looked at those 12mont options but the reality was they were making very little on them probably due to the 12months. Again, not worth it for us

Samsung 830 series is very very good and regardless of file type performs consistently.

The Vertex 4 is a beast of a drive with an exceptional warranty however it is £10 more.

Look at the samsung.

I guess it's the same reason as DDR2 is more expensive than DDR3....lack of supply now?

But you cant use DDR2 in a DDR3 board, or the other way around. SSD's work either way round.

Have a couple of PCs I've been thinking about SSDs.

Secondary PC only has a SATA2 port ... the Sandisk Ultra 120MB looks great value for OS and selection of apps - any reason to not to get this or to spend more?

For main PC probably thinking about a 256MB so have more space for apps - it has SATA3 so am probably looking good price on a M4 or 830

Cutting production seems like an arse about face type of move... Surely price dictates demand to some degree. Tech is tech and almost exclusively, the cost of tech to the consumer drops over time. Continue to offer price drops and you'll sell more product. This stinks of price fixing to some degree. If the big names Toshiba and Samsung are cutting production to increase margins then surely the other companies will follow suit.

In any case yet again the consumer looses. Capitalism sucks, I just wish there was a decent alternative.

<edit> How many people are poised to make the jump to SSD but are just waiting on a truely worthwhile drive size to come into a "reachable" price point? I earn half decent money, but why would I shell out £180 for 256gb for a few minutes time saving per week right now? I'll buy a 256Gb drive when they hit £125. Anything smaller is barely worth the effort. I'm certain many people feel the same way.

waiting on a good deal for the 256gb samsung 830, will it be safe to use this in raid with my 128gb m4 though on sata3, or will the 830's speeds be reduced to that of the M4?
