*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Finally got around to unlocking and rooting yesterday. A great device just got greaterer! Joy, no more ads. :)

Can't decide what to do with my nexus.
Its pretty much, touch wood, fault free.
Apart from the screen lift that's 1/10th of a mm, doesn't click, doesn't affect anything...
It does push down but after a while it pops up again. Same as before. Not a problem now, just wondering how it'll be after a few months.

Personally if I had a screen that popped up of its own accord I would change it... I don't think that's OCD, just a desire to have a unit in perfect physical condition. You never know if it will cause other issues later, like things getting under the screen etc.

I can't imagine I could find the use for a piece of plastic probably a quarter of the price of the thing just to do what my hands are supposed to do!

anyone got iplayer and flash working.
Tried to sideload flash and iplayer, as per the xda thread, but no luck.
Browser cache has been cleared as well.
If she goes to the bbc website to watch something, she gets a 'device not supported' page?
Using firefox as a temporary measure

Iplayer working fine here. Did the same as you, sideloaded both programs, then launch iplayer as a seperate process. Flash won't work through the default browser.

Got mine today - slight screen lift and, as others have pointed out, it may become a bigger issue in the future so I'm returning for a refund to Google. Fortunately Tescos have stock and with a discount code I can get it for 190 - which is a saving of 25 compared to Google. Plus, Tescos, have a 28 day returns policy where Googles is approx 12 day.

The device itself is excellent (I use an iPad 3 everyday) andTBH I can see me using this more when I'm chilling, surfing, reading etc as it's so much lighter and easier to hold.

Really impressed with jellybean too - coming from honeycomb - and can't believe what they've produced for the money. OK, the quality control is pants, and I certainly wouldn't want to be dealing with ASUS if I had problems when past the 12/28 day guarantee with stores - but if you're lucky enough to get a perfect product for ~190 plus 15 in vouchers and free movie it would certainly feel like a great buy.

I'll let you know if my replacement is fault free - not holding my breath as I've had similar experiences in the past where I've essentially 'customer beta tested a product' on its release, with other newly released computer devices, so i will expect the worst and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

*Typed on Google Nexus 7 - and surprisingly easier than I thought it would be - however I won't be surprised if this the above doesn't read well as a result :)

Which side of your tablet had screen lift?

Just out of interest - those of you who have also had 'screen lift' problems which side of the tablet was it on?

Mine was on the left hand side when holding the device in portrait mode.

It would be interesting to know if there's a general trend.

I very nearly tried the the DIY fix but was worried about scarring the back panel and voiding my warranty. It's a shame if it is just a screw pushing through too much - as a make-shift shim is a very easy solution...

Is there a simple way to root the nexus 7 that doesn't wipe the device? I read on XDA that the 1 click version won't wipe if the boot loader is unlocked - how do I unlock it first?

its the unlocking of the boot loader that wipes the device NOT the rooting, from what I've read the wugfresh(the one click) and m.sabra methods need an unlocked boot loader.
