just got a puppy :D

Cages aren't important. Never had one with any dogs my parents have had, nor with my dog.

Anyway, just let the pup cry, they'll get over it soon. If you keep going to them they'll develop separation anxiety. :)

If you are putting the dog in a cage overnight, try an old blanket to cover the cage, leaving maybe just the front door not covered.

When he knows that it's his safe place, leave the door open during the day and he'll eventuall go in of his own accord to nap.

He needs to know that it's his sanctuary and not a punishment.

as a previous poster said why are you caging the puppy? thats a little harsh tbf - iv never ever done that with any dog iv had.

I 100% agree

Because dogs love to have something which they can hide away in, a cage is somewhere they feel safe.

You'll find dogs will sit under tables and chairs, or anything they can get underneath, that's just their way of making them selves feel safe.

So are you telling me that a dog will of their own accord get into a cage themself? I dont think so. As others have said in this thread cages aren't needed.
I'm sure the OP has a table or chair that they can use instead then, rather than being shut in a cage.

Is the cage actually shut through? Most i've seen for dogs don't have doors and the dog comes and goes as it pleases

I've never bothered with a cage either, as long as he had a few 'beds' lying around where he could nap and sleep I didn't see the point of a cage, but this one seems to like his:

Some people use them as a training shortcut. They do no seperation interval training and then wonder why a dog is upset when they are shut away on their own for half a day or overnight.

However, they can be usefull for keeping serial chewers safe. I would question though, that if you are going to be away from an animal for the length of time that would necessitate having to use a cage, whether it is in the dogs best interest for you to keep one at all. On the other hand, not every home can be a 'perfect' environment.

Did you guys even read the OP

Did you see the question mark?

It indicates the sentence is a question.

Ergo, he is not wanting to show us a pic now is he.

I have a black lab she is now 13 , and still crazy ! I have twin boys who are just 1 yr old . One of them is deaf and she is always next to him , and sleeps next to his bed . How she picked up on that he is deaf i will never know  . Plus we kinda found out my G/F was pregnant because she wouldn't leave her alone and kept sniffing her belly.

Enjoy your lab it will be your shadow and best friend for a long time .:)

+1

within 2 weeks of the wife getting pregnant, our dog stopped sitting next to me at night and started cuddling the wife's belly. she knew weeks before we did! until our son was born she would stick with my wife as much as possible. even when my wife was really ill for the last few months of the pregnancy (in bed pretty much 24/7). the dog would spend all its time with her.

dogs can do some really cool things. they can even 'smell' cancerous tumours etc. man's best friend indeed

she also goes upstairs every night when we put our nipper to sleep and sleeps on the bed in the next room. i hate to think what she would do to anyone who tried to hurt our son. proper little minder for him! :)

ours did.

she was a 6month old rescue and within 1 night settled into her cage (albeit a massive one!). we just gave her a dog chew and a cuddle. the next night i got out the dog chew and she ran and sat in the cage and wagged her tail.

we got the cage as we didnt know how well she would do being a rescue. within a few days the cage door was left open all night and she was happy in her bed.

i dont think they find it too bad, unless used as a punishment.

Just because he doesn't say he has no intention to show us pictures in his op, it doesn't mean we can't ask.

Ergo, it's open for us to ask if he will.

Then you know nothing about dogs do you. Of course a dog will get into a cage.

You don't have to shut it in the cage, for the first few nights as a puppy, a cage to sleep in is fine. Nothing wrong with it.

You must think i meant locking them up all day, which i didnt.

If you left a cage door open with a towel over the top, when the dog feels like its tired or was scared it would run into the cage, same as it would if it was a dog kennel.

I think it's disgusting..and yes I've had a few dogs.

Ye maybe it is if the cage is half the size of the dog so the dog is squashed in, that is disgusting, but a cage 2 or 3 times the size of a puppy, is fine for sleeping in over night.

Weird imo to expect pictures, even saying the thread is useless without pics when if you read the op it doesn't call for a pic to be posted in any whatsoever.

If I made a thread about going on holiday would I be expected to post a picture of the aeroplane? No.
