*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

So with respect to the screen problems that a lot of users have experienced, does anyone know if this has been formally acknowledged by Google / Asus? I was wondering if there is due to be a 2nd batch released in the near future with such issues resolved.

Thanks

I'd be very surprised if they did, companies never acknowledge any design/production issues (unless safety is involved). Doing so would open them up for refunds, claims etc. as well as destroying short term sales. Although there are lots of people reporting issues in the forums I would think that returns are still a very low percentage of overall sales.

I wonder what the % of those with screen lift is ?

both the ones myself and a friend at work bought (from different places) - had screen lift

perhaps someone could setup a thread with a poll, screen lift yes or no - and see what the % is

This would not though be a representative sample of Nexus 7 users. I think all it would show is that people who had a problem like letting off steam in forum polls.

it would IMO as those that don't have lift seem to sing from such heights - that they'd love to post on a thread such as that

would people guess that there are more WITH screenlift than not ?

or that there are more without screen lift than with ?

My slight lift on the left is so minute (only because of this thread would I have even bothered to look for it) As soon as my case arrives I can whack that on and be in blissful ignorance whilst the rest of the internet is worrying about measuring their gap in microns.

Just a quickie.

I rang Google CS on Tuesday and initiated my replacement. I got one of the first batches with left hand screen lift. I ummed and ahhed about whether to just put up with it after reading people getting replacements that were worse than their original one.

I had started to notice that slight pressure on the left hand side caused bad screen ripple and it was really bugging me. I usually sell my older hardware to buy new hardware and I would have difficulty selling it in the future with this problem.

So bottom line is I wanted a defective free device.

I'd had mine 19 days before I rang up and CS were brilliant. I received my email with the replacement link while on the phone to the rep. A few clicks later and the ball was rolling.

I must say that people should just ring up and get an RMA. I was put though in 15 seconds and it took only 5 minutes to get everything sorted.

I rang 0800 328 6081

Today I received a jiffy bag from TNT out of the blue. I had not had a despatch email from Google Play, but who's complaining. I thought I'd have to wait till next week maybe.

I've just opened mine now and it feels totally different to my first one. No screen lift whatsoever. There is no movement at all along any part of the bezel - totally solid (even Tom would be happy :))

I switched it on (because that is the 2nd test!) and the screen intially had bad burn in (oh no!) , but after a few minutes it all disappeared and now the screen looks great. I can't see any dead pixels too! Speaker seems good too.

I'm so glad I decided to RMA my Nexus 7. This is the Nexus 7 I wanted. Sexy, but also solidly built.

Google CS were great. Top marks.

I'm very happy now.

The Google rep said that if you buy from a store after 14 days you deal with Asus, but if you buy from Play Store that is not the case.

I was worried I'd have to deal with Asus but they set up a replacement straight away.

Shame it still isn't right :(

tom would have hit the roof and been on here complaining and returning it for the burn in, wouldn't have bothered going any further :)

Except that'd be complete BS.
Consumer is never expected to deal with the manufacturer.

I don't know US consumer law, so wouldn't like to comment.

Does anyone have any images of this nexus 7 screen lift?
I'm sure I saw an image in this thread, but it could have been a dream/nightmare when I came in one night :p
