*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

I posted mine the previous page or two, dont know how severe or bad it is compared to others mind, its the fact it gives a creeking sound of the screen pushing back in when you hold it with your left hand is the bit you dont get from a pic.

Image broke for some reason fixed now, previous page.

Got my replacement today, haven't opened it yet as I don't want the disappointment of another faulty unit and knowing my luck with electronics, it will be faulty :(

So with respect to the screen problems that a lot of users have experienced, does anyone know if this has been formally acknowledged by Google / Asus?

Their agents openly acknowledged that there is a known 'screen lift issue' on the phone. In the course of getting my refund I spoke to 3 different reps and all acknowledged that it was a known problem.

My biggest annoyance is that you have to fight to get your return p&p paid for in the UK. In the states they arrange for UPS to pick up the faulty device free of charge.

I think I'm going to keep this one.

It does have slight screen lift on the top left, but its not spongy. My original Nexus 7 had a bad bulge straight from box opening that was very obvious and was very spongy.

I really don't want to return this to receive a third the same.

Also, I have paid for my first one and have a hold of £159 for this replacement. If I set up an RMA again I will have another hold on my card for £159.

The first one is obvious screen lift. The 2nd one less so but it is still there. They claim in the RMA email that they inspect the returned units on receiving them. I'm just worried they may not deem the 2nd one as screen lift and charge me.

And if I get a 3rd unit and there is another hold everything starts getting messy.

I think I will sleep on it.

It also looks from the serial that its from the first batch again which I am not happy about. I would have thought they would have send the most recent ones, not old ones

Except that'd be complete BS.
Consumer is never expected to deal with the manufacturer.

The retailer can appoint a repair agent after 28 days. The 28 day figure is not set in stone in law. Google could quite probably get away with 14 on a touch type device thats (quite literally) been pawed and mauled for 14 days.
The consumer cannot refuse to deal directly with the repair agent.
The consumer can expect the retailer to deal directly with complaints.

My first device, direct from Google, had obvious screen lift and my replacement from Tesco has very slight lift but is rigid and secure (for now).

It doesn't effect the performance and, TBH, had it not been for forum banter I definitely wouldn't have noticed it on this second device.

The device is that good value, IMO, I would rather own one with a slight defect than faff about with yet more returns and run the risk of being without.

Horses for courses, but having experienced obvious screen lift [sic] I can live with a slight aesthetic imperfection knowing that if it effects performance or gets worse I can still return over the next 12 months - via Asus :/

I've just ordered http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/genuine-samsung-galaxy-s3-s2-note-micro-usb-to-usb-converter-p29425.htm well from the rainforest for £8.95 will that work on the nexus 7? I could have saved like a fiver and gone for a cheaper option but don't know what they'll be like for quality and if they'll work/work for longer than days/weeks/months.

also ordered the black mofred case with screen protector and stylus for £8.59(£6.59 + £2p&p)

ordered from the rainforest also but link to non competitor site for what it is

I believe that has been suggested on this thread a couple of pages back. So you have nothing to worry about.

Well well well...

Having opened my replacement last night and played with it to determine if it had screen flicker I could detect no trace of it, then I let it perform its system update and lo, screen flicker has returned, currently no where near as bad as the previous unit but that one got progressively worse so we shall see.

Rooted and stick mount I have a question, can you move files both ways? So as little time as possible with the usb connected? If so can someone link me to a easy root guide :P
