Well having a stronger team than a team that got 3rd last season doesn't sound like a terrible place to be in..:p

Firstly, we don't have a stronger team, we're weaker at striker, significantly weaker and stronger at left wing. Central midfield, we have no idea how good Santi is, he might do great in this league, he might be rubbish. it doesn't matter if Podolski is rubbish at left wing, we'll have a rubbish player WITH a footballing brain rather than a rubbish one without a brain :p

Secondly, Spurs is difficult to judge, they had a massive lead on us, MASSIVE... then we got less points in the second half of the season. Spurs had a team last year that could have finished within a few points of the title winners, then threw it away, the squad was stronger than us last year, played better and was miles ahead till Redknapp did the "wow, I'm ahead, must panic" mode. Bale on wing, helping push for top spot in the league, so in the run in after xmas he switches him to a free role which backfired spectacularly. We didn't win 3rd, Spurs absolutely and beyond reason threw it away, likewise Chelsea threw away the top 4.

Spurs haven't strengthened more than us, yet, and are infact weaker, but they were a team capable of being 10+ points ahead of us, Chelsea had a team capable of beating us, Chelsea have strengthened more than we have, Newcastle haven't lost any top players, had a lot of players new that season who will almost certainly further improve, have bought 3-4 players, one who is potentially a top player and might strengthen more.

Basically we needed to strengthen SIGNIFICANTLY to match Spurs in the first half of last season and we haven't done that. We've essentially fixed the least problems of anyone in the top 6 so far.... that isn't good.

The Liverpool Echo are claiming that Liverpool no longer have any interest in signing Dempsey.

I'm not sure if that's just the club briefing them that to further force Fulham's price down. There has been a few reports over the last month saying that Liverpool were unlikely to follow up their initial enquiry though.

Well the players have been giviing positive feedbacks about Boulds input throughout the whole team. About shape and defending together. He hasnt had the team long to put a mark on it but if i were a betting man I would say we are organised better as a team this year

Maybe, maybe not, EVERYONE always says positive things about their coaches, doesn't mean anything. Chelsea players all ran the party line "its great, new, a great energy about him, fresh idea's, exciting".... about AVB. Results = something, platitudes when 99.9% of players wouldn't dare say anything outside of praise = nothing.

I'd like to see it, but ultimately Gibb's worst quality is his absolute inability to get back in line with the back 4(and Sagna's the same) and I saw not the slightest bit of improvement in preseason games.

RvP is so beta he showed that against Newcastle against krul acting like a classless ***. In that match it marked an end to his prolific scoring for arsenal and showed how much of a helmet this guy actually was. Oh and I'd rather have a club with a secure future rather than one with shedloads of debt like ******.

You must be really upset. Ah well you will get over it lol

The worrying thing is in terms of positional sense, Santos makes Gibbs look like Bobby Moore by comparison. I watched him play a 45min preseason match at St Mary's and in that 45mins I literally couldn't work out what position he was supposed to be playing.

To be fair he's been playing in a semi free role for some reason in preseason, he hasn't been playing left back most of the time so I wouldn't have a go at him for that.

He's kind of playing the left side of a midfield three but with the midfield three quite free to go where they please.

One of the main reasons he looks less good than Gibbs positionally at left back is, fitness/weight/size/speed. Gibbs is fitter and faster so gets closer to being back in position. He was seriously unfit last season, so many games the last 30 mins he'd be barely walking back if he went up for an attack. Doesn't look an awful lot fitter now tbh.

We REALLY need a quality left back, and we need a right back too. Sagna's first 7-8 months were superb, the last couple years, mostly rubbish.

It's arguably stronger than last year, its weaker than two years ago, which was weaker than the team they year before that, rinse repeat.

Hm  Do you argue with yourself in an empty room DM? :p

It's so hard to predict with Arsenal, they lose their absolute star player (Fabregas) and another quality player (Nasri), sign replacements which are definitely not as good (Arteta, Gervinho) yet finish a place higher, with more points than the previous season  It's also hard to tell, they create a ton of chances of which RvP slotted away a bunch, but if say Giroud proves to be a clinical striker then there's no reason he shouldn't score plenty with the chances arriving for him.

can't see adebayor coming to spurs now, looks like it's at stalemate. we wont budge on our offer of a £4m signing on fee and £100k p/w wages and AVB has said we are not willing to increase our offer.

Even last season though when he was supposed to be LB in some matches, he was a one-man offside trap. Worse than Glen Johnson on a bad day. Fitness does look an issue to me.

Also, it sounds like Alex Song has left Arsenal (a few journalists saying so - £15-20m deal with Barcelona to be confirmed over the weekend). As a result they're pushing to get in Sahin.

And ESPN also say Man Utd are likely going to bid for Leighton Baines, I hope we do really, we need some left-back cover and Baines is decent.

Cover? He is better than Evra who has been downhill past 2 seasons

If he performs better than Evra then he can replace him, I've got no issue with that.

Edit:

Also, a statement from Club Universidad de Chile has confirmed we've signed Angelo Henriquez and also confirmed that he's staying at Manchester United and will feature in some games.

You'll be wearing no.20 which has a lot of goalscoring heritage. Are you happy to be in that shirt?

I had the option of 20 or 21 and the reason I took this shirt is because we're all here to be champions this year and that would mean a 20th league title for Manchester United. That's the main reason I took 20.

21

He'll be playing in the reserves/Under 21s and playing as Will Keanes replacement as Keane is injured, rather than playing first team games.

We've also sent another young striker out on loan and Joshua King is possibly being loaned out too, so he'll be 'replacing' them.

Quite possibly, but it would be nice to see him playing a few league cup games, why not!

I'm pretty sure that's what the club statement says, that he'll be joining the Under 21s as the Manager wanted him to replace the injures striker and the player expressed a desire to train in England.

So it might be a few games here and there but he won't be really considered playing with the first team. We'll have to be squeezing Macheda into early Cup rounds at this point so not sure where he'd fit first time wise!
