MBP 15" retina 3-4 weeks!!

Think they're non existant now with the mountain lion update. But since Mountain Lion people are getting 4 hours on battery instead of 8 so that's hinting towards it using the 650m more...

Thanks that great news!!

Shame on battery life but still 4 hours is plenty, really am thinking very hard to order this Hmmmm!

I've not noticed any reduction in battery life, but the lag has gone away.

That's on two different MBPs - might be trying a 3rd one next week

That's the RMA for MBP number 2 authorized.

Number 1 had a creaking/clicking badly fitting base plate.
Number 2 had a defect in the top case coating (near the bottom row of keys), which whilst small was an annoying blemish on an expensive bit of kit.

Number 3 should be arriving next week.

That's unlucky man!

Might have a look over my normal one and see if there is anything amiss.

Nope. No dice there.... brand new clean installation of 10.8.1 on 2011 11" MBA and I'm getting 3 hours max on normal use!

Machine's less than 6 months old and the battery's at pretty much 99% design capacity still too. Genius appointment yesterday showed naff all wrong with the hardware, so report filed with the back end tech boys. Dude in the Apple shop saw what was happening and noticed the abysmal battery life, but the diagnostics said "fine", so it's definitely looking like software still.

On-topic though, I played with a Retina while waiting to be seen. I did really well not to walk out with one!

Are these touchscreen as well, or just normal keyboard laptop style devices?

They are not touch screens.

Yeah, it's made me question Apple's quality control, at least the exchange procedure is painless and thanks to Time Machine it's all back up and running sharpish.

just to throw in my bits, i swear my battery has significantly reduced since mountain lion and to me its definitely because of the graphics chip being less. i still get a good amount compared to the 12 minutes i got on my really old mbp

My 13" MBP 2.9 i7 arrived today and its gorgeous.

Worth every bloody penny and argument :D

Just waiting for adapter to arrive to enable me to swap the optical drive with the original hdd and bang in Samsungs 128gb 830 SSD.

I'd recommend putting the SSD in the caddy. The standard hard drive bay has better sound/vibration dampening.

Is the sata cable connecting the superdrive sata3 though?

I must admit, all the videos on youtube show it how i was planning on doing it. Im not saying your wrong, more curious to why they didnt do the same?

Someone was saying the other week that there are issues running the main drive in the ODD bay and I recall reading the same. Don't know if this is different with ML or the latest Macs, have a read at the Macrumours forums. I believe both are SATA 6Gb/s now but check.

Both are 6GBPS Sata 3. Here's my setup in System Profiler. I have a Samsung 830 and a Momentus XT. I had a mechanical hard drive in the caddy to start with and it was a lot more noisey than it is when in bay next to the battery. The caddys are quite flimsy and light so resonate any vibrations.

It makes no difference speed wise whatever Sata you connect too. It's purely from an acoustic point of view that i say put the SSD in the caddy. I'm not sure why anyone would have problems with using the SuperDrive Sata port as it's just a normal Sata, same when setting up a PC. I've checked throughput and it's exactly the same.

I appreciate the advice. I definitely dont want a noisy MB
i was originally planning on get apple to stick in the ssd from the word go and buy an external hdd but id prefer everything to be on the laptop without plugging things in and out.

I want to get it right first time as i dont want to have to keep opening up the case in case i damage any of the screws.

Might take a little look on macforums. cant say ive ever been over there but then again this is my 1st mac :D

There's a huge thread on the Apple forums about screen burn in has anyone had any problems with that?

I'll be sure to not let that happen! Although my LCD tv is at very little risk of screen burn being an older model i still find myself pressing back up with any red button etc and not leaving tv on when no one is watching. i would have never of thought about screen burn on laptops

After reading a bit more it looks like the retina models are coming with two types of screens, ones made my Samsung and ones made by LG and it appears the LG ones are the ones with image retention.

my LG has image retention. I only really notice it if I specifically look for it with a light grey background.
It doesn't bother me enough to try and return it but if it gets worse (ie I can see it doing normal work) I will be straight on the phone to them
