*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

^ Thanks. Full screen unfortunately still crashes. :( Guess it's impossible!

e: omg, I think I might've gotten it to work... Set to desktop mode in boat browser and fullscreen seems to work although is still a bit shaky. Setting the stream to "pop out" mode is 100% OK so far. Yaaaaas!

For those that keep asking what is there out for a similar price then the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 can be gotten for £199.99 inc free P+P. Its a 10.1" 1280x800 display has hdmi out and an SD card slot. Only drawbacks is it's running on honeycomb and has a tegra 2 processor. But I should think an upgrade to ICS should be available or in the works. It also comes with a keyboard dock.

Data sheet if you're interested: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/pdf/system_data/k1_tech_specs.pdf

I've just seen that advertised elsewhere. Didn't realise that the keyboard was included for £200. I believe ICS is available for it too.

However if the performance of my tf101 is anything to go by regards tegra 2 the ideapad will be substantially slower than the Nexus. Still a reasonable buy for a 10" tablet though.

A friend of mine bought the 8GB version of the Nexus and seems quite happy with it.

I'm 1/2 tempted to buy one (for no better reason than 'just 'cos' :)).

I haven't read the entirety of this thread, but what I have read has me somewhat put off by the problems people seem to be having with dodgy screens, poor colours etc.

I'll never fork out for an ipad (or anything else produced by Apple). I don't believe in Apple's business model, and I personally think Steve Jobs (RIP) was another word for a Rooster.

My politics on gadget vendors aside, is the Nexus really worth buying now? Those of you that have one, would you buy it again after seeing it? Would you wait for the next model?

It is a brilliant device, my missus loves hers - since I bought it a month ago for her, she hasn't touched a PC/Laptop once while in the house. Forget the hardware issues as they are a minority, people who have faults tend to troll as a form of stress relief and make it look like every model has an issue - if you buy one, I very much doubt you will regret it..

Well mine turned up today. Speedy delivery, but at £10 it flipping well should be :)

Seems ok, although I haven't done an awful lot on it apart from install a couple of apps so I can stream my music and videos from my NAS.

Has a few oddities, like videos playing in portrait mode unless you install a separate app. The whole portrait/landscape thing seems odd as most of the time it seems to want you to be in portrait.

Of course I haven't investigated very far to see what settings are there, or what I'm missing. It works anyway (and touch wood it'll keep on working), and that's the main thing :)

All seems fine so far :)

Not sure if people have cottoned on but every google account you sign in/register on the N7, you receive the £15 play credit on each account.

Also all my paid apps remained on my sister's N7 when I removed my account :D
I'm signed into life 3 of my Google accounts. Only one 15 credited...

Having decided not to buy a new graphics card or a new bike, I am hovering around the idea of buying a N7.

But I'm put off by all the talk of issues, the fact it will be outdated within a few months (like phones are), and that what I really wan't is a MS Surface :(

And it has no SD slot, which is a pain.

Hmm....

Returned mine yesterday.

The "expert" said it was a backlight problem and it will be sent for a repair or the most likely case a replacement.

Will be happy with either tbh. Just hope its a quick turn around!

You had to have separate credit/debit cards for each account in order for them to be credited. I also have 3 accounts but only main one got the credit cos my card is registered against that.

Another one being sent back :(. Seems that at least 1 person a day in this thread is sending their 7s back...

I don't plan to send mine back. Don't see why should I...
Tiny screen rise doesn't bother me especially when I managed to make it even smaller - made device warm and used rubberbands to push it down for a while.helped. not in full but most of it is gone.
No other issues.

My first one had some sort of smudge underneath the screen and screen lift. Screen lift didn't bother me but the smudge sent me batty. Replacement had chipped paintjob on the bezel and screen lift. Third one has screen lift and creaks a bit but I'm happy and keeping it.

Just had to sign for a mysterious package. Turns out to be a TNT RMA return envelope. I might as well tell them that I don’t need it.

See, stories like this put a massive dent in the 'amazing value' argument for the 7.
