*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Is there any way to make the stock lock screen rotate into landscape? Or is there a lock screen app that will do it yet not be rubbish (most of the lock screen apps I've used are rubbish).?

This was one of my main gripes. So stupid to have a homescreen only in portrait when so many apps work better in landscape.

"Rotation Control" solved it for me. I used the trial, then bought it. Set it up and forgot about it. Feels native but you might have to set certain allowances to avoid apps crashing when they are programmed only to work in certain orientations.

It's a limitation on the stock launcher that should have been sorted by now.

I'm using Apex but but it doesn't replace the lock screen. I'd rather not risk breaking other apps, I'd just like the clock on the lock screen to be landscape :(

I agree but I just installed Nova launcher, job done.

One of the main reasons for my attraction to the nexus was the pure google experIence, so I was reluctant to "skin"over the top of it with another launcher. Compromised with the rotation control as it sorted my only issue with the standard feel.

None, yet.

Good to hear.

Nova is a stock launcher (looks the same) - but with loads of extra features.

You'll have to explain that to me.

There's only 1 stock launcher and that's the one thats integrated into JB from Google. Nova is downloaded from Google Play or an APK sideloaded. Therefore it is not THE stock launcher.

I think he means that Nova uses the look and feel of the stock launcher, while others like Apex aim to create a different look and feel.

Personally I think the stock launcher is too 'phone like' and I much prefer the tablet styling of Apex. I just wish the lock screen rotated :(

You don't wan't to use it then go ahead :p

Do you use chrome as your stock browser - isn't that on the play store too? My point is, what difference does it make if you have to install it?

How good at power management is the 7? My battery seems to be showing plenty of life, but it does seem like everything stays running when I turn the screen off. Is there a way to make it sleep or anything?

If you have to install it its not stock. That's the difference. Just pointing out that there's only one stock launcher and Nova isn't it.

Install CPU Spy and it will show you the time your device spends in "states", including deep sleep.

Well I mean't stock as in looks exactly the same but with tons of features - which in the end is what really matters.

Stock is not the same as pre installed. The only devices that are stock are the Google ones (and may be those cheap Chinese ones?). Pretty much everything else comes with manufacturers own versions of things. Just look at the HTC devices and what comes pre installed on them.

Cheers, I'll give it a go.

I think the point he's making is that Nova is based on the AOSP code for the stock launcher - thus, think of it as the stock launcher + fancy bits.

I understand what you mean about "pure google experience" and I agree that better landscape options would be nice, but having choice is the best thing about Android and you shouldn't be afraid to tweak and customize to your liking :)
