HD8800 Series Coming

Really? I don't know where you're looking then. AMD is a much smaller outfit (less risky)

AMD increasing http://www.google.co.uk/finance?client=ob&q=NYSE:AMD

Nvidia are on the decline today http://www.google.co.uk/finance?client=ob&q=NASDAQ:NVDA

AMD have declined by about 30% over the last few weeks and after the news that Thomas Seifert resigned as CEO.

However it's a very short space of time to read anything into that, especially given that AMD are currently trading with a 'natural' grade, the same as Intel. And they have just poached 1 or 2 big wigs from Apple and one from Intel.

Stocks and shares go up and down looking like the profile of a mountain range all the time, it doesn't mean anything unless the value drops like a stone and then stays there for a long time.

In the past 3 years AMD's stock has gone from $6 to $4 to $10 to $9 to $4 to $8 to $2 and currently on the way up from $3.60

It's just up and down up and down, it does not mean anyone is going bankrupt.

AMD have all but payed off there debts at this point, have just bought out the server maker SeaMicro and is just beginning to role out new high density servers, is successfully developing the resonant clock mesh technology into there chips, is currently working with Microsoft and Sony in developing the next generations of Game Consoles which will use AMD chips.

AMD are far from going under. :)

While the 8850 and 8870 are based on the Oland GPU, this newly leaked Radeon HD 8970 will use the "Sea Islands" Tenerife GPU instead (and has a TDP of 250W). Tenerife offers up some impressive (but realistic) specifications, including 2,304 shaders, 128 texture units, 48 ROPs, and a relatively massive 384-bit memory bus.

It will still be based on a 28nm process, but will be somewhere between 380mm^2 and 420mm^2. To put that in perspective, the 8850/8870 has a die size of 270mm^2.
I wasn't sure if this deserved it's own thread. Looks like more details are coming through in the next few days about the new card.

Also, I called it back in December last year!

Well...Nintendo's Wii U approach with the formula of [(overpriced+gimmicks) - good games for hardcore gamers] + underwelming hardwares...not sure AMD partnership with them is even benefitual at all. Already seen lots of peoples' comment pointing and laughing at the it...

Whether or not Wii U will succeed, it's probably down to how many dummies buying them.

Oh don't be ridiculous.

Of-course people laugh, most people are ignorant and don't have a clue about what they are talking about, they just follow the trend that is AMD bashing.

A higher range APU is 10x as powerful as whats in the current Wii, but more importantly 95% of people do not know or care about whats inside it.

The current Wii sold more units world wide than the Microsoft's xBox 360 and Sony's PS3 put together, this is probably thie most anticipated GC on earth.

Interesting link :)

Don't be daft :p

That old "fake info" sheet from pre-7970 times has nothing to do with the next-gen cards, other than that the shader count matches current rumours for the next-gen card (which is still pretty far-away).

So you are telling me you will be for the sake of Zelda and Mario paying nearly £200 for JUST the WII U's handheld device (not even including the cost of the console itself...think the leaked price is £$350?) to use it as minimap for games, simliar to NDS's bottom screen? You could nearly get a PS Vita with that kind of money. Nintendo might have good innovation, but problem is they are heading toward the wrong direction of making money off gimmicks, rather than improving gameplay experience. And the company is to far up its nose that most game developers hate them.

All of that is completely irrelevant to the masses that will buy it (although I agree with you).

I agree with where your coming from.

I think the original Wii is a pile of junk, i have no doubt this one is to, try telling that to the huge masses who bought the original one and still think it's the best thing on earth.

Good sense does not apply to 95% of the human population.

Look at Apple, again people queued overnight by vast masses to get there hands on an enormously over priced Mobile Phone.

If someone apparently cool appears on the Youtube and says this is the coolest thing on earth; like sheep the masses remortgage there house to get one.

You've misunderstood something somewhere. The Wii U is £250 for the console AND touch screen controller together.

looking at various websites, it seems the price of some 7850s and 7870s is actually going up instead of down. all the more reason to wait for next gen, then...
