Police search for missing 5 year old in Wales

To be fair its a sleepy welsh town where everyone knows everyone, the area where she went missing is a quite, spacious estate. At 5 i was running around unsupervised never did me any harm.

Anyways there was an unconfirmed report in north wales waiting to hear more.

She was last seen wearing this coat

and her school uniform which is the picture on the far left.

Didn't see if anyone mentioned they think she was picked up in a van. Seems that it could have been an opportunist not from that area?

I really can't understand what is going on in the mind of someone who drove down that street and on impulse would do something lke that. (If that is what really happened)

Anyway, hope she is returned safely.

Terrible news and it's pretty crappy that this isnt the top story in the UK on more news sites at least in the important first 24 hours. Stop worrying about a 15 year old girl who willingly left the country with her teacher and concentrate on this.

I can't imagine how the parents must feel right now.

It's every parents worst nightmare. I'm a very sensible and mature individual but as a dad myself I think I would be 2 steps away from imploding right now if I was in her fathers shoes. Awful, just awful.

And as for the types of people who commit crimes like these.............don't get me started.

There's so much speculation going on with this in this thread and even the news. The thing is we dont know what the chain of events were leading up to it.

The thing to remember also is that she wasn't out there alone, there were other children from the cul-de-sac playing out with her which suggests its a common occurrence amongst the children of of that cluster of houses. The chances are she has played out like that without issue for a long period of time and I guess complacency slips in on the parents part but to be calling them a disgrace is overboard bearing in mind the total lack of known facts right now.

Also worth noting is that the only thing that is known about the events is what has been extracted for the other children that were playing out with her and this well be completely incorrect or fabricated.

Finally I would add my name to the list of people who played out in our cul-de-sac in our sleepy village at that age with friends. My parents were nothing but excellent by the way.

It's in the very first post.

Assumed the first post was created when it was first announced. The only news site I regularly visit (BBC) didn't mention it originally.

Saw this early this morning, hope she is found soon.

I know the media involvement can be an asset in these situations, but I can't help but feel you can feel the excitement inside the anchors as they get their teeth into another situation.

Perhaps I'm just too cycnical.

Horrible news though.
It's not just you.

Every single time I hear of a massive disaster I imagine the newsreaders doing a massive jump up air punch & getting really happy to have something new to fret over.

The whole thing feels a bit... off to me the way the media pounces on a tragedy for ratings (under guise of trying to do a public service)

having said that, when i was young (I'm 37) we always played outside. are there more paedos now? or do we just hear about it more?
I'm pretty certain it's just reported more.

I wouldn't surprise me if rape/paedophile has decreased & the reporting increased (as society improves) - historical crime stat's are also notoriously dubious (as classifications change & reporting was much harder).

Kay Burley I think it is on sky news will have a spring in her step, she seems to particularly like this kind of thing and does a real poor job in reporting and asking questions at the same time

Here's the thing.

Why in the hell was a 5 year old girl allowed outside, at night, in the dark, with no parental supervision.

It's just wrong. I'm seriously against nanny-state stuff but this has gone WAY too far the other way. There's no way in hell my parents or guardians when I was a 5 year old would have let me stay outside after dark, after even 6pm latest during autumn/winter, with NO adult supervision. NO WAY. And there's no way I'd let my own kids do it nowadays, with a huge increase in the number of cars on the streets and general street-based concerns rising steadily over the last few decades.

I'm not surprised that all these adults are running around like mad trying to find her. Smells like guilt to me. And so they should be. Whoever thought it would be just fine and dandy to let a bunch of 5-year old kids out in the streets that late, in the dark, is simply stupid.

There are a few 4-6 year olds in my extended family and I sincerely doubt that any of them would have the street smarts to leg it if someone was trying to tempt them into a van. They're not stupid kids at all and their folks have obviously told them to never, EVER go off with a stranger, but when you're THAT YOUNG, and out with your mates.... a 5 year old is simply too young to be out without adult supervision.

In my opinion the parents or whomever was supposed to be looking out for these kids should be prosecuted.

Yes I did just say that and I'll say it again - They should be prosecuted.

That poor child.... I sincerely hope someone finds her. Then I sincerely hope that those responsible, including her "guardians" are *severely* punished.

I'm going to get some hate from some people here but I don't care. This needs to be said. I've not heard a SINGLE person on the telly or radio today say "why was she out so late in the dark with no adult supervision?". Someone has to ask the question. And YES now IS the time to ask that question. People need to wake up and realise that we're not living in a soft and bouncy happy-land. The street is dangerous, day or night, and kids need to be protected.

Horrible horrible awful business.

The reason I think no-one has asked this is because at the end of the day it's up to the parents. Sure a lot of us can say it's irresponsible but some people are stupid with the "It'll never happen attitude" and "I was out playing at that age".
I know I was out playing with friends around that age without supervision but these days I wouldn't ever let my hypothetical kids out without me.

Totally depends on the context of the surroundings though. In a city urban environment then no but a small country village is a different thing.

On a side note I hate Kay Burley from Sky news.

Why is it different though? I'd argue that it might be even more dangerous in quiet country village because there are fewer people milling about who might witness things and put people off, you also often get people driving like maniacs down country lanes, and the streets are often not as well lit as busy urban areas.

Because its a quiet cul-de-sac of a small village, its not a busy urban environment or a road with loads of risk elements. I'm not saying its right but I am saying its common and always has been in that environment. The feeling of being "safer" in a quiet village is why people want to live in them (amongst other things). If a new vehicle was in that area then its likely that it would be seen but it was'nt other than by the other children. To me this means its either incredibly bad luck that no one spotted it or the kids were mistaken.

I grew up in such a village and I kid you not, you couldn't fart at breakfast without everyone knowing about it by lunch.

The Police have just booted all the press out of the conference for some reason and some chap has just said mountain rescue are now involved. How likely is it that shes wandered off do you think ?
