Fined for chucking a apple into a hedge

Will do.
Sounds like an interesting little experiment.
Ive got apples coming out of the ears so might as well put them to use.

Make sure you stick them under a tree or next to a hedge on the ground, not in your kitchen on a plate! Or do both so we can see how different their rotting behaviour is!:D

I remember once I ate some apples, and when it got to the middle I simply took out the seeds and ate the core. Why am I not meant to do that?

i do the same but some types of apples the core isnt soft and fleshy and possibly not very nice tasting etiher

I don't want to use my car's ashtray as the car will stink of smoke and I don't like seeing cigarette butts on the street. It also baffles me when people flick their butts on the pavement when there's a bin withing a few steps from them.

I always carry one of these with me:

Completely odourless when sealed. Won't fit an apple core though unless the apple is tiny.

Why it's still littering, and shouldn't be done. Although of course it depends on circumstances and where, would you want someone to discard an apple core on top of your hedge where it's visible etc?

If it were say thrown in a public park near wildlife / for wildlife then that's fine. It's about the situation not so much the action.

Besides in all likelyhood he was just plain littering and is trying to use the fact that it was an apple to get out of it. I wouldn't throw a half eaten apple into someone elses property, I could choose to leave it in my own to decompose in the soil, but I don't expect the right to do it in someone elses property (public parks / for wildlife would be a little different, but I doubt this was a case of that).

Cigarette butts are equally annoying and dirty.

Indeed it is, I'm a smoker myself and I'll step a few feet away from bus shelters and I'll cherry the cigarette and carry the butt until I find a bin. Why is it difficult to carry rubbish until such bin is found? Lazy and disgusting behaviour.

Another reason to hate apple, frankly.

Quoted for the truth!

I eat bananas on the way to work, bloody things get pulled out the window because of the wind, one day I'll have a jobs worth behind me, but at-least I've got a pretty good excuse.

Slugs would have probably stripped it clean in a few days. They devoured a small mouse in my garden in a day.

Just as long as it's not done in an almost sterile environment like that video.

In my time we've had a lot of Apple trees, including an orchard and apples would not still be visible after that long in most situations.

almost sterile? its outside :o

but ok.

Ill do it in the orchard, right under the tree..ill take a couple that are about the same size and place them on the ground where they'd have fallen.

Saw this on BBC's website:

Basically, a man was fined for chucking a apple core into a hedge.

Opinions?

Personally, I think it's ridiculous. If anything, it's adding nutrients to the soil and no-ones going to care about it in a hedge. If it was a can or a crisps packet, I would understand. But not a apple core.

Did the man apeel against the fine?

what are people's thought on bread crust out the car window? I may know one fine chap who (when in traffic) eats his lunch in the car when travelling from one work site to another and is too busy to have a lunch break, and then when done there is sometimes crust left which he/she will chuck out the window. would people seriously call this littering?

Lol at people saying its littering - what idiots, that's like saying the apple tree in my garden litters....because it drops apples on the floor

It quite obviously is littering. Which is why the dude got fined and then taken to court over it.

Whether you believe it to be littering or not doesn't really matter now does it?

and no, the willful actions of a human being are not comparable to the biological processes of a tree.

I'll defend the people saying its wrong to throw anything out of a car window, or onto anyone elses property, but not that it is littering.

That looks daft, just give up. You'll be thankful for it.

As someone who lives on a farm with a coastal path that goes around half of it. I really wouldn't consider fruit as littering, it decomposes so quickly or gets eaten by birds etc. Plastic bottles, cans, crisp packets and sweet wrappers; these are litter.
